Restaurant Impossible - Rascal's BBQ & Crab House - CLOSED

Restaurant Impossible Rascal's BBQ & Crab House

Episode Recap

Chef Robert Irvine visits Rascal's BBQ & Crab House in New Castle, Delaware, a restaurant close to closure as  there are no customers choosing to eat there. Inside is the dirtiest restaurant Robert has seen so far and a huge deep clean is begun to get the restaurant up to an acceptable standard. The restaurant is also given a makeover as is the menu with fresh dishes and a revamped catering menu and service.

What Happened Next?

After the show was aired, the restaurant was only open weekends, with the owner claiming it was difficult to get crabs. He was not happy with the way the restaurant was portrayed and claimed that those working on the show had spread rubbish, old equipment and food on the floor to make the restaurant appear worse than it actually was. He didn't keep Robert's menu for long after filming, claiming it was too fancy for his customers. They closed in May 2011.

  1. I have worked in New Castle since mid-2011, and in 2013 I moved to a house that's less than two miles from this restaurant.

In all these years, I have never, ever seen this place open for business! Having not seen this episode before, I could not understand why. It's got a great location on a major highway, and thanks to the makeover, it looks rather decent from the outside.

Too bad the owner doesn't seem to know how to run this place because in the right hands, I'm sure it could be a gold mine.

  2. The owner is a hoarder I'm sorry to say. It really grosses me out that an owner/manager/cook could have those problems and choose to ignore them. Reminds me why you should report restaurants where you get sick at.

You read the source of his comments and he's really full of it. Accusing them of scattering fake rat droppings and making coffee explode in the microwave to make it look dirty. Scattering his "stuff" everywhere to make it look messy.

Made me angry to think of what they've done for him and he comes back at them like that. Even angrier to think of the state of the property. Also at the health inspector. Clearly whoever passes that building is on the take.

  3. I saw the episode and those were mouse droppings, definitely not caraway seeds. With this owner, it's always excuses and it's always someone else's fault. This buffoon just didn't want to put in the work necessary to cook from scratch and keep the place clean.
