Restaurant Impossible Season 3 Open or Closed

A list of all Restaurant Impossible season 3 restaurants, whether they are open or closed and what happened next after Robert left the restaurants featured on the popular Food Network show. There were 13 episodes in the season, airing between February to June 2012 and the season 3 closure rate currently stands at 62%

Moss' Prime Rib & Spaghetti House Restaurant Impossible
Moss' Prime Rib & Spaghetti House - CLOSED

Chef Robert Irvine visits Moss Prime Rib and Spaghetti House in Elyria, Ohio, open since 1958, the restaurant was once a landmark in the town. Robert finds that after the owners Sam and Sandi bought the business (name and recipes) and moved the restaurants location, it is struggling. The food is average, the décor is shabby but the main problem is that owners Robert and Sandi are stubborn and are reluctant to make much needed changes. Sandi often lashes out at staff but by the end of the episode you see her softer side. The menu and decor was updated and Sandi called in her brother to help.

What Happened Next?

After Robert visited, Yelp reviews seem to indicate that the majority of customers loved the changes that they made. However, they closed on April 13th 2013.

The Chatterbox Windham Restaurant Impossible
The Chatterbox Windham - CLOSED

Chef Robert Irvine visits The Chatterbox Windham in Windham, New Hampshire, to help turn around The Chatterbox. The restaurant was bought by Lynn after the death of her husband, she thought the restaurant would bring a reliable source of income for her family and give her sons a place of employment. For a pleasant change, the decor wasn't terrible, just a tad boring. The biggest problem, however, was the food, nothing was seasoned and the staff, simply didn't respect Lynn and walked all over her. Robert made big changes to both the menu and worked with Lynn on her management skills.

What Happened Next?

After Robert's visit, reviews on Yelp were mixed. Lynn has said that the makeover was mostly cosmetic and didn't focus on managerial skills to help her continue, which she is learning on her own. It appears from what I have read online that a truck drove into the restaurant and they decided not to reopen.

Anna Maria's Restaurant Restaurant Impossible
Anna Maria's Restaurant - CLOSED

Chef Robert Irvine visits Anna Maria's in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, where he finds the filthiest restaurant he has visited so far and a restaurant stuck under the shadow of it's former glory. The décor is very shabby and the kitchen is so dirty that Robert vomits everywhere and takes the drastic step to shut down the service. Robert refuses to let anyone cook in the kitchen until it has been deep cleaned so they have to borrow another local restaurants kitchen to practise new dishes for the restaurant's new menu.

What Happened Next?

The owner Jack sadly passed away before the show was aired. Business tripled after the airing of the show and there have been accusations that the state of the kitchen had been exaggerated for the episode and that the grime shown was staged by the producers for the show. It appears that before closing they reverted to their old menu and Roberts additions to the menu were all removed.

Del's Restaurant Restaurant Impossible
Del's Restaurant - OPEN

Chef Robert Irvine visit's Del's restaurants in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a restaurant that has been operating for 61 years. The food and decor is in need of attention but the biggest problem is the owner Marianne. The pressure from the struggles of the restaurant leads her to shouting at the staff and creating an atmosphere that is unappealing to customers so unsurprisingly customers are staying away. They claim that using the microwave saves time and they can the get food out quicker to customers. Robert challenges this and they have a race: Microwave versus Cooking from scratch. Robert won this race and proved that you can cook from fresh quicker than using the microwave. They have other strange kitchen practices including putting ice cubes into sauce to cool it down, what is wrong with the fridge? Robert gives the menu and restaurant a makeover and works with Marianne to improve her management skills.

What Happened Next?

Since Robert visited, Yelp reviews are mixed, negative reviews seem to criticise the quality of food and hit and miss service. Reviews seem to suggest that they have kept the decor and menu that Robert put in place on the show.

Woody's Tupelo Steakhouse Restaurant Impossible
Woody's Tupelo Steakhouse - OPEN

Chef Robert Irvine visits Woody's steakhouse in Tupelo, Mississippi, a once bustling joint, who in it's glory days served Elvis. In the present day, all he finds is sub par food but worse than the food is the dining room, which is dark and gloomy and the table side service is very outdated. Who spends $1000 a month on tablecloths? Jeez. The decor, menu and website were given makeovers by Robert and are much improved after the change.

What Happened Next?

Since Robert visited the reviews on both Yelp and Trip Advisor are mostly excellent with the odd average or poor review. The excellent reviews highlight both the excellent food and service.

Valley View Restaurant Impossible
Valley View - CLOSED

Chef Robert Irvine visits Valley View in Quarryville, Pennsylvania, where he finds Valley View. Deep in Amish country, the restaurant has been run by three generations of women. Robert finds that the décor and menu are both in need of updating and discovers that they don't serve any fresh food at all and that everything was frozen or from a can. Robert decides that home cooked comfort food would be the right direction of the restaurant taking into consideration the local area and teaches the chefs some simple, home cooked recipes. Robert also gives the restaurant a makeover and adds a hot bar, which is a big improvement. Robert also asks Ann to step down to allow Kelly to step up and run the restaurant.

What Happened Next?

Robert revisited in February 2012, they have hired a new chef and hold meetings to make improvements. They have struggled with the hot bar and Ann has struggled to stay away and let Kelly run the restaurant. The restaurant closed on 8th March 2012, 4 days before the episode aired, as Ann was not willing to invest any more money into it. The single Yelp review reads that they had crossed out most of the menu items, served tinned tuna and the service was slow.

Pelican Grill Restaurant Impossible
Pelican Grill - OPEN

Chef Robert Irvine visits Pelican Grill in Seabrook, Texas, a small restaurant that only serves breakfast and lunch. He meets owners John and Laura who are losing $2,000 a month and are eating into their savings to keep the place afloat. Neither has experience of running a restaurant and the customers are not impressed with the food quality, most of which turns out to come from a can. Robert has a lot of work to do as the restaurants décor is dated and clutter filled with a lack of strong management. Robert revamped the menu and retrained the staff.

What Happened Next?

Between filming and airing, the restaurant had to close for 8 days as someone drove their truck through the front of the restaurant. Robert revisited in April 2012 and business was up 40%, they had also extended their opening hours to include a dinner service. A lot of staff quit including the Head Chef but they have all been replaced. Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews are mixed after Robert visited. In August/September 2013, the restaurant was sold to new owners. Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews appear to be mixed since the new owners took over.

Robert is shocked at what he finds, as well as the staple outdated restaurant, the place is crawling with roaches and other vermin. Robert has to call in reinforcements in makeover show Kitchen Cousins to help with the monster makeover.

What Happened Next?

Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews following Robert's visit were mostly good with the odd bad review. Four months later, Ken reports that business is up 15% and he is seeing new customers as well as beginning to pay off some debts. The restaurant closed in July 2013 after failing a health inspection with a disgusting 42 de-merits/violations including roaches and rodent droppings, which is a shame as it was a problem before Robert arrived and after all of his help they went back to their old unsanitary ways.

Pappas Restaurant Restaurant Impossible
Pappas Restaurant - CLOSED

Chef Robert Irvine visits Pappas Restaurant in Benicia, California, where he finds a failing Greek restaurant run by Mike Anestasios and his constantly bickering sons. They are constantly fighting and the relationships are in need of Robert's help. The fighting however isn't Robert's only obstacle to over come in order to turn the restaurant around, the decor in the restaurant is terrible and the food is bland. Robert changes both the menu and the decor of the restaurant.

What Happened Next?

Robert revisits and Mike tells him that business is up 50% on the previous year. The restaurant closed in March 2013, owner Mike blamed the decline of foot traffic off the back of the show, the vast amount of restaurants in Benicia for diners to choose from and taking too long to return staple dishes to the menu that the regulars missed.

Ristorante Barolo Restaurant Impossible
Ristorante Barolo - CLOSED

Chef Robert Irvine visits Ristorante Barolo in Aptos, California, where he finds owners Giovanni and Cristina, who bought the hotel with attached restaurant and for the first 5 years it was a success. With the economic downturn and the rising costs of maintaining the old building, they are now struggling to keep the place open. Both are also struggling with health issues and are in desperate need of Robert's help. There are multiple problems, the decor is dated and Giovanni gets frustrated and sends out poor quality food, his brother, also a Chef wants to help but Giovanni doesn't let him. The decor is given a makeover and more structure is implemented.

They still own the hotel side of the business and this remains open.
