In this Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service episode, Gordon visits Caffe Boa in Phoenix, Arizona.
Caffe Boa is owned by husband and wife Patrick and Jenny.
Gordon arrives and uses a hidden key to enter through the back of the restaurant.
With a black light, everything lights up.
He immediately sees rat droppings out in the open.
Gordon uses a snake camera and finds more in the wall.
He enters the walk-in fridge and it is too warm.
The food inside is already starting to go bad.
The daily sales are put on the calendar as a constant reminder of the failing business.
The next day, all the surveillance is put in.
The staff all think they are on a renovation show.
Jenny is both the co-owner and executive chef.
She is self-trained and learned at the restaurant.
Patrick knows nothing about cooking and will Google recipes.
He used to work in IT.
Since they started working together, they started having issues communicating at work.
Customers enter the restaurant.
The decor is drab and lifeless, especially for a place that just opened.
Aisha works in the kitchen.
She has opinions about the owners.
She supports Jenny but has much to say about Patrick.
Gordon is not happy with how Patrick talks down to his wife and his staff.
Patrick blames everyone else, stating that staff are the problem.
He claims that he is trained to manage people.
Christian is their sous chef and he is frustrated to be working there.
He trained Jenny to be the sous chef and believes he should be the executive chef.
Patrick gets Jenny to introduce herself as the executive chef to the customers.
Gordon sees that Patrick is toxic.
Gordon has his spy, Rock Harper, go in to taste food from the menu.
Rock asks what is made in the restaurant.
It seems to only be the meatballs that are not bought in.
Gordon sees bad practices in the kitchen, there a lot of reheating of food.
The pasta is bad as the sauce tastes like it was canned.
The meatballs also taste bad and Rock has to spit them out.
The meatballs are rancid and are not fresh like they claim.
Gordon has had enough of seeing Patrick bully Jenny in the kitchen.
He asks the customers to leave and calls for all the staff to gather.
Gordon addresses the staff on alll he saw the night before and all he heard during the service.
He calls Patrick out on his actions and the decision to make Jenny head chef over a more experienced chef.
Patrick is not polite and Gordon talks to him alone after he disrespects his wife.
Patrick is unrepentant.
Gordon says he cannot change the restaurant unless he believes Patrick will change.
Patrick goes to reprimand Jenny again afterwards.
After listening in on their conversation, Gordon decides to speak to Jenny.
Jenny reveals she has a 3-year-old daughter
She wants to step back so she can spend more time with her daughter.
Jenny is not happy about Patrick.
Afterwards, Patrick swoops in on her to find out what she said to Gordon.
She is open and tells him what she said.
Patrick is not happy and he sulks.
He says that he is ready for the change.
As the staff all sit to eat together, he is disparaging, which irks Jenny.
The next day, Gordon takes the couple for a hike.
Gordon gives Jenny a bag full of rocks to symbolize the weight Patrick puts on her.
She also speaks her mind about everything.
Somehow Gordon finally gets through to Patrick, who tears up.
While this was happening, Gordon’s team is hard at work renovating the restaurant.
Gordon watches the couple as they enter the new space that is now more vibrant with new furnishing.
The kitchen is much more spacious with new tools and equipment, which they both love.
Gordon enters, and he goes into the kitchen to watch Christian cook and he is great at cooking on his own with very little direction from Gordon.
The meal is served to the couple and they love it.
Gordon reveals it was all Christian.
The couple are surprised; he is called and Jenny apologizes to him, and he is made the executive chef.
Patrick solely agrees, and the rest of the team are let in.
Gordon then reveals the insider to be Aisha.
The couple and the staff are okay with it and recognize she just wanted the best for the restaurant and the owners.
Customers are let in, and they love the food Christian is cooking while Jenny and Patrick are in front of the house.
Gordon sees Christian get swamped and goes in to give some guidance on how Patrick can support Christian to catch up.
Everything is going great and one more customer is let in: Charlotte, their 3-year-old.
What Happened Next at Caffe Boa?
