Padre Rita Grill - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Padre Rita Grill

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Padre Rita Grill in South Padre Island, Texas.

Padre Rita Grill is owned by Cathy and Michael Laferty.

Cathy has been running the restaurant for four years.

This area is filled with tourists as South Padre Island is only 25 miles away from Mexico.

Michael is an entertainer and Cathy is a registered nurse.

They have been married for 37 years.

Cathy was Michael’s road manager while he was performing.

The original vision was to have a music venue for customers to be able to listen to fantastic music and eat fantastic food.

Michael thought he owed it to Cathy after the years she spent supporting his dream as a musician.

This restaurant isn’t working for them as neither of them have any restaurant experience.

Cathy says she gets sad about the state of things at the restaurant.

Michael says that Cathy deserves better and that it breaks his heart.

Robert arrives at the restaurant and says the decor needs improvement.

They rent the building and it costs them $80,000 for rent.

It costs them $53 an hour just for the restaurant to be open.

Cathy and Michael don’t seem to know their numbers and they are laughing about it.

Robert tells them to go and get him the numbers.

Cathy thinks that he yells at them just for ratings.

She doesn’t think he is here to help them.

Cathy says that nobody knows these numbers.

She says the way Robert treated them is belittling and insulting.

Michael says that Cathy takes everything personally.

Cathy tells Robert that he’s here just for ratings.

Michael says that this isn’t the woman that he knows and loves.

Robert tells them to get ready for service and they’ll go from there.

Robert says that it frustrates him when owners don’t know their numbers.

The customers admit that they thought this restaurant would be more Mexican because of the outside.

Robert notices that the staff is either pretending to look busy or just standing around.

The kitchen is a mess.

Nothing is prepped ready for service and no one is running the kitchen.

There is no strong manager in the kitchen, leading the staff.

This causes low quality dishes and long wait times for customers.

The menu is too big physically and it has too many items on it.

The customers don’t like the food and say they wouldn’t come back to the restaurant.

Cathy is taking everything to heart and is struggling to cope.

Robert orders a few items off the menu to try.

Robert says the guacamole sucks.

The chicken tastes like gum.

Robert puts a napkin over his head and screams.

Robert tells Michael and Cathy that this is a representation of their business.

Robert tells them to gather all of the staff.

He tells the staff that if they don’t want to work here then now would be a good time to walk out of the door.

The staff say that the restaurant is failing because of the owners.

Cathy says that she feels like she’s being thrown under the bus.

Robert meets with his design expert Lynn Kegan.

Robert gathers the staff and tells them to take everything out of the restaurant so they can begin the remodel.

They want to make this restaurant a casual beachside cabana.

Cathy is resentful of the staff after they confronted her and Michael.

Robert gives Cathy homework to be completed that evening.

She is to write three things that made her fall in love with Michael and to write about her dream job.

Cathy says she is emotionally exhausted.

The next day, Robert’s biggest priority is finding out where this restaurant is losing money.

Robert checks in with the design team and is impressed with the progress that they have made overnight.

Robert meets with Michael and Cathy and asks them about their homework.

Michael says he can’t let being a musician get in the way of this business succeeding.

They discuss where all of the missing money has gone.

Their food cost is around 50% but they thought it was around 30%.

Their labor cost was around $600,000.

Robert says with those two alone they are already bankrupt.

Robert meets with the owners and the cook to show them how to properly make the foods he tried yesterday.

It will also help them save money on food costs.

Yesterday, the whole restaurant was cluttered.

Now, the restaurant is more open and brighter.

Robert wants to try to market the restaurant.

They go to the beach with beachballs.

They go around the beach with the balls and give them to people and advertise their reopening.

Robert meets with the staff to discuss how their previous behavior will not be tolerated once they reopen.

He tells them he will be stepping up as general manager.

When the staff misbehaves, they have three chances to correct it before being punished.

The design team makes the finishing touches to the restaurant.

Robert says he can’t wait to show Cathy and Michael the new Padre Rita Grill.

Michael says that they have learned a lot about themselves and have come to terms with their mistakes.

He also says that they can make this work.

Cathy says that today she has hope.

Michael says that they will not let this business fail because it’s what Cathy wants.

He is going to work until he drops to make her dream come true.

Robert shows Michael and Cathy their new restaurant.

Cathy says that it looks so clean and nice.

She never would have thought that Robert could pull this off.

Michael and Cathy are in tears.

Padre Rita Grill opens up for the first time since remodel.

On relaunch, the customers say that there is a lot more color in the building.

They think that the menu is very simple and easy to follow.

Food is coming out quickly and it looks well presented.

The customers love the food and promise to return to the restaurant.

Cathy is especially proud of her staff.

Michael is proud to be the owner of this restaurant.

What Happened Next at Padre Rita Grill?

A few months later, the staff are glad the salad bar was removed.

They returned some of the old menu items at the request of customers.

However, the menu is still much shorter than when Robert first arrived.

Michael is now the general manager at the restaurant.

Padre Rita Grill is open.

Reviews are mixed.

Negative comments seem to focus on poor service received and hit and miss food.

Maria tells Robert that Shawnee and Stefania hate each other.

Shawnee says that Maria should have a life separate from her sister.

Robert calls Maria to join them in this discussion.

He tells Maria that she needs to tell them if they don’t want them working here.

Shawnee says that Stefanie is codependent on Maria and that it is toxic.

Stefanie says that she wants to be Maria’s right-hand-man.

She also says that if Shawnee becomes a partner, she might leave.

She says that she feels like she is being pushed away from their mother’s restaurant.

The next day, Robert wants to focus on the issues in the family.

Maria says that she is willing to give Stefanie responsibility but she has to earn it.

Stefania tells Shawnee that she wants to take the time to fix this between the three of them.

The three of them hug.

Robert checks in with the design team to check on their progress.

She thought that she would lose one of them or both of them if Robert didn’t help them.

Green Beret Club / Smoke Bomb Grille - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Green Beret Club

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Green Beret Club at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Green Beret Club was created to serve the airforce and special forces at the base.

It also catered to their friends and families and was intended to help socializing between troops and their families.

Robert has a special place in his heart for the military and wants to do everything he can to help.

The restaurant was converted from the former gym in the 1990s and was changed into a restaurant.

After a day at the base the soldiers would meet to eat, drink and enjoy each others company.

The Green Berets that were the namesake of the restaurant later moved their base of operations from Fort Bragg.

After the Green Berets left business began to decline at the restaurant.

Customer numbers have declined dramatically with less soldiers on the base.

The supervisor Michelle Hagwood says that a lot of business has dropped off due to the name.

The locals feel that the restaurant is only for Green Berets and not open to the public.

Mikki Morris runs the day to day operation and says that the business has been struggling and the profit margins are down.

Robert arrives at the restaurant and meets with Mikki and Michelle.

He is upfront with them and tells them that he will have to make some dramatic changes to the restaurant in order for it to succeed.

Mikki is nervous about changes and doesn’t know if she will still have a place at the restaurant.

She has also been at the restaurant so long that she doesn’t know she can change.

Mikki does realise that some changes do need to be made to make it the success that it once was.

Robert sees a lot of old photos when he steps into the Green Beret Club of service men and women.

He thinks that the bar looks old and outdated.

Robert asks Mikki what kind of food that they serve there and what the customers think of the food.

Mikki says that she thinks the food is good and the customers haven’t complained about the food.

Robert wants to see a service so that he can see what the issues are at the restaurant.

They don’t cook anything from fresh and all of the food is made from frozen ingredients.

Robert tells the cooks that they will have to cook from fresh in order to be able to give the best experience to the customers.

He speaks with the customers and they tell him that they eat there because they like the place.

They say that the photos on the walls make them proud of their profession and enjoy the tribute.

They also feel that the place is important to them.

Robert wants to transform the place into a club that appeals to everyone and not just Green Berets but also respects the history.

Robert meets with the design team to discuss ideas for the restaurant.

The memorial wall will be kept and expanded as it is a memorial to those who have served and those who have lost their life.

The design team need to keep the memorial wall with their transformation of the space.

They get to work with emptying the space ready to begin the transformation.

Robert heads into the base and to the jump tower where the younger soldiers train to get their feedback.

Some of the soldiers tell him that they haven’t been to the club.

Others say that they hadn’t heard of it and some said they never knew it even existed.

Robert thinks that many don’t visit as they think it is exclusively for Green Berets.

Robert thinks that the only solution to this problem is to change the name of the club.

Before he changes the name he wants to consult with some of the military administration personnel.

He meets with Raymond Lacey (Director, Family & MWR), Suzanne Nagel (USASOC Deputy PAO), and Lt. Col Brian Yarbrough (Commander, 3rd MISB).

They discuss his proposal to change the name of the club to something that doesn’t sound exclusive.

After this, Robert meets with the Red Falcons for some fitness training and to discuss potential names for the club.

They suggest the name the Smoke Bomb Grille and Robert loves it.

He creates a new logo and new menu for the new name and new concept.

The design team have been busy at work in the cluband have made the memorial more modern.

The bar has been given a new energy with army colours as the base of the colour scheme.

The club has been refreshed and given a fresh coat of paint.

Robert has taught the cooks a new menu using only fresh ingredients.

The dishes are also quick so customers aren’t left waiting for food.

Mikki is struggling with all of the changes that have been made in the club.

She is overwhelmed with all of the changes and doesn’t agree with them.

The crew has scanned all of the photos so that they can be changed into a digital display.

There is a Green Beret memorial with an entrance and there have been many changes made.

The seating has been rearranged, there are night lights and they have changed the lighting to brighten up the space.

When Mikki and Michelle stepped into the new Smoke Bomb grille, they burst into tears of joy.

On relaunch, they have invited local servicemen and their families to the event.

The customers love the new decor and the food is a big hit.

Mikki and Michelle are overwhelmed by the relaunch and feel glad that they invited Robert to transform the space.

Spicy Bar and Grill - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Spicy Bar and Grill

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Spicy Bar and Grill in Falls Church, Virginia.

Spicy Bar and Grill is owned by friends Mike Loh and Floyd Bui.

They bought Spicy two years ago and only wanted to be silent business partners.

They wanted to keep their careers in the car industry and the Government.

However, they both ended up running the restaurant as they lose their other business partner.

Whatever big plans Floyd and Mike had they went down the hill fast as they failed to bring in customers.

They are just a few bad months away from closing the doors and walking away.

They don’t have a clue on how to make the business work.

They struggle to make money and haven’t been able to pay themselves.

Things have got so bad that Mike had to use her son's college fund.

Floyd also recently sold his car to pay some bills in the restaurant.

They both got into the business, having everything and have lost it all.

Robert arrives at the restaurant and says that it all looks new in there.

Everything looks generic and boring.

Robert met the owners for a brief.

They tell him that they purchased the restaurant two years ago.

The pair paid $300,000 for it and don’t have any prior restaurant experience.

They got into the restaurant business because of a friend who led them into it.

He approached and convinced them to buy into it thinking it was a good deal.

Sadly, he left the business just three months after they opened.

Floyd does the restaurant's paperwork while Mike manages the kitchen.

They are currently losing $5000 each month.

Robert asks to see a service so he can find out what is wrong with the restaurant.

The dress code was the first issue that he sees.

The servers also do not know the menu they are serving.

Nothing in the restaurant runs like a typical restaurant.

There's no table numbering system, they all disrespect each other and they are wasting food.

Chaos and miscommunication are major problems at the restaurant.

It is the customers who pay the price for this from awful tasting food to waiting too long before getting their order.

It was time for Robert to try the food for himself.

He orders some popular items from the menu but is disappointed with the food he receives.

Communication is a significant problem, as suggested by Mike.

He has difficulty communicating with "Mommy” in the kitchen.

She is his friends mom and does most of the cooking.

Robert suggests that maybe someone else needs to be brought in to improve communication.

Next, Robert meets with his designer Taniya to discuss the restaurant.

He tells her that she has just 48 hours and $10,000 to update the decor.

Robert asks the owners and staff to move the furniture out of the restaurant so the design team can get to work.

As the servers blamed the owners for their lack of training Robert wants to test them.

He gathers them together to test them on the menu.

Robert is stunned to discover that the managers and even the chefs don’t know their menu either.

He gives them a copy of what will be the new menu so they can learn this ready for relaunch.

For the restaurant to have any chance of survival, Mike and Floyd must step up and lead their staff to success.

Robert asks the owners to do some homework that evening.

They are to go onto social media and place a job advert for cooks at the restaurant.

Those they recruit will need to be at the restaurant for 9am the following day.

Before he leaves he speaks with Nath and asks her to wear a more professional outfit the next day.

The next day, Robert arrives and meets with the design team to see the progress they made overnight.

He is impressed with the progress that they made overnight.

He encourages them to keep up with the good work, ready for the relaunch that evening.

Robert meets with the owners to see if they had completed the homework he asked of them.

They tell him that they have four potential candidates for the cook position.

Robert wants them to audition to see if they have what it takes.

Two of the cooks performed well and each cook a signature dish for Robert and the owners.

They are so impressed with both of them that they decide to hire both of them.

Robert works with both of them to teach them the new menu and new dishes.

Next, he wants to test the servers on the homework he gave them of learning the new menu.

To reward Nathalie and Carmen for dressing more professionally he takes them for a pedicure.

They appreciated it and were excited at the experience.

The design team have finished in the restaurant and it is time for the reveal.

The owners are brought into the dining room.

They are amazed by the new look of the restaurant.

The pair are surprised at how much they were able to do in such a short timescale.

They feel invigorated and energized for the relaunch that evening.

On relaunch, the customers are let into the restaurant.

They love the new decor and believe that the transformation is remarkable.

The relaunch is a success with customers loving the new food and promising to return.

What Happened Next at Spicy Bar and Grill?

A few weeks later, the restaurant had new owners.

Mike quit working after the restaurant shortly after relaunch and they decided to sell the restaurant.

Spicy Bar and Grill closed in November 2014.

They closed after being sold to new owners.

She’s there every day from seven to three for breakfast and waitresses during the afternoon.

Renae hasn’t paid rent in quite some time and isn’t able to buy food for her home.

Robert walks into El Bistro and notices the stench in the place is horrid.

There’s so much dust on the ceilings and the restaurant is dirty.

Robert is sticking to the floor as he tries to walk around the restaurant.

Robert calls Renae and says that this is the worst place he’s ever walked into.

He tells her to give him a reason to help her and asks why it’s like this.

Renae is behind $30,000 in taxes and she owes her landlord $6,000.

Robert tells her she’s not restaurant smart at all.

Robert wants to see a service to see what the issues are at the restaurant.

The customers mention that the tables are dirty.

There is mold growing in the soda fountains and there are moldy dinner rolls.

Robert tells the customers that he’s not letting them eat anything in this restaurant.

Robert shows the restaurant to his design team and they discuss plans for the transformation.

They begin taking out everything in this restaurant.

Robert gives Tom a sledgehammer and they begin tearing the counter down.

Robert says he feels happier after breaking the counter down.

Robert meets with Renae and she says that her staff has left her with the cleaning

She also admits that she needs to take a more active role in leadership.

Robert asks if the staff respect her and she doesn’t know how to answer that.

Robert meets with the staff and asks them for their opinion on what goes on at the restaurant.

The staff say that she’s not there as much as she says.

They also say when she is there that she gets so frustrated and flustered.

The staff tell Robert that they have to spend their own money on cleaning products.

Renae hasn’t given them the tools they need to keep the place clean.

Robert gives the staff homework to be completed by the next day.

He wants them to write down what they want from Renae as a leader and then he wants them to tell this to Renae.

Robert has all of the kitchen equipment taken out to be cleaned.

They discover lots of mold and bacteria growth in the kitchen.

Robert says he can’t work on a menu yet as the kitchen isn’t usable.

Robert meets with Renae and wants to find out if she wants to be a part of this restaurant or not.

He tells her he wants her to really think about it.

He wants her to convince him that she is capable of doing this and that she deserves it.

The next day, Robert arrives and checks in with the design team.

They have replaced the flooring and there is no longer a smell in the restaurant.

It must have been coming from the old carpet.

The design team is focusing on textures for the walls.

Renae had to ask herself if her heart was in this business.

She said she asked her kids about it and they said they loved the restaurant.

She says that this is what she wants to be doing right now.

Robert says that only time will tell if Renae is capable of turning the restaurant around.

The pair meet with the staff to go over what they want in a leader.

They want her present more and to be there on time each day.

The staff think they need a budgeting plan for cleaning products.

They all agree that they just want Renae to be happy at the restaurant.

Robert offers Renae money to get her out of debt so she can sell the restaurant.

She says no to $10,000, $20,000 and $30,000.

Renae says she is ready to do this and her whole focus is to turn this place around.

Robert hugs her and tells her that he believes her.

Robert begins creating the new menu.

He shows Renae and the cook recipes with trout, mashed potatoes and green beans.

Robert changed the name of El Bistro to Renae’s Corner for a more personal touch.

Robert calls over Renae to show her the new name and she loves the new name.

She says having it named after her makes her feel good.

They begin making the finishing touches on this restaurant.

Renae says she is nervous but excited to see her new restaurant.

Robert takes her inside and tells her to open her eyes.

Renae is crying and she hugs Robert.

She loves all of the new changes that they have made.

They open up for the first time since remodel.

On relaunch, the customers love the changes and the food.

They say how it smells so much better in the restaurant now.

The customers like how they changed the name to Renae’s Corner.

They said El Bistro as a name didn’t make any sense.

One customer pointed out the artwork and said that they liked how they tied the restaurant to the community.

The staff notice how happy Renae is and how she seems to be more dedicated now.

Dennis was dressed in a gorilla suit with an adverts in his hand, trying to bring in customers to the restaurant.

They have owned Uncle Andy's Diner for about ten years.

The couple bought the landmark restaurant after hearing that they were having some problems at the restaurant.

Tina and all of their four children work at the restaurant.

The restaurant makes $100,000 a year and they don’t get paid from the restaurant.

Both of them have other jobs that they work at night.

Dennis is a standup comedian and he travels 5 hours to work.

He comes back at 4.30am each day to be able to open the diner for breakfast.

When they first bought the diner his brother was coming in to run it at night and Dennis was running it during the day.

Eight months later, his brother sadly passed away from cancer.

Dennis should know the costs as he worked in corporate but his excuse is that he doesn’t have the time.

Dennis enjoys his job as a comedian on a personal level but he wants the restaurant to succeed for his family.

Robert can see that Dennis likes to joke about but he doesn’t think the restaurant is funny.

The restaurant is filthy and run down.

The ceiling is disgusting, the carpets are worn out and the chairs have seen better days.

Robert wants to see a dinner service to find out what the issues are at the restaurant.

Robert meets with Dennis’ children to learn more about him as an owner.

They feel like he is a better comedian than he is a business owner.

Robert is surprised to see Dennis performing a stand up routine for the customers.

The food takes a long time to get to the customers.

Some customers are left waiting up to 55 minutes for breakfast.

Dennis is confident that he knows what the customers like but Robert doesn’t think he does.

It is clear after speaking with the customers that Dennis is letting them down.

Robert decides to try the food and orders some dishes.

He is unimpressed with the food that he is served and gives his feedback to Dennis.

Robert meets with his designer Lynn to discuss the restaurant and plans for transforming the space.

Lynn has just $10,000 and 48 hours to transform the restaurant.

Robert asks Dennis and the staff to remove everything from the dining room so that the design team can get to work.

He asks the family to come back into the restaurant to see it for the last time before they get to work.

It is an emotional time for the family and Dennis because of his brothers passing.

Robert asks the family to join him at a park across the street to talk about the issues at the restaurant.

With Dennis running the restaurant during the day and doing comedy shows at night he is close to burning out.

Robert tells him that he can’t keep doing both for much longer.

He needs to work out a balance between the two passions that he has.

Robert checks in with the designers and is impressed with the progress that they have made so far.

Robert decides to go and see Dennis at one of his comedy shows.

He thinks if he is funny as he says he is then maybe he needs to give up the restaurant and focus on his comedy.

The next day, Robert arrives and checks in with the design team.

They have made excellent progress overnight and the restaurant looks completely different.

Robert meets with Dennis to talk to him about his comedy routine from the previous night.

He tells Dennis that he loved the show and thinks that he has great material and energy on the stage.

It was clear to Robert that comedy was his true passion and he tells him that maybe he should focus on this.

Dennis tells Robert that he would rather do the comedy than run the restaurant.

He agrees to take a backseat at the restaurant and allow his wife and the children to run the restaurant.

Andre is passionate about the restaurant and is eager to take a more active role in the restaurant.

Robert is surprised that they don’t have lobster on the menu.

He sources a local supplier of Maine lobster and plans to add it to the menu.

The staff have never cooked with it before and Robert shows them how to make it cost effective.

They enjoy learning the new menu items and are more confident for the relaunch.

Before the relaunch, the new restaurant is revealed to the family.

They love the changes that the design team have made to the restaurant.

Andre will be taking the lead for the relaunch with Dennis able to focus more on his comedy.

On relaunch night, the customers are let into the restaurant.

They love the new decor and the new food.

The customers promise to return to the restaurant.

Restaurant Impossible Country Cow Restaurant and Bar

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Country Cow in Campton, New Hampshire.

Country Cow Restaurant and Bar is owned by Jenny Leonzi and Kerry Benton.

They are divorced and struggle to work around each other.

Kerry first met Jenny at a restaurant that they used to work at.

Kerry was a cook and Jenny was a waitress.

They dated for two and a half years before getting married.

Soon after getting married, they opened up Country Cow.

Things quickly turned bad as Kerry would yell at Jenny.

They soon separated and within 16 months they were divorced.

The sales at the restaurant dropped from $900,000 to $450,000.

The pair moved on with their lives and didn’t keep an eye on the business.

They are in debt of more than $300,000 and can’t afford to buy each other out of the business.

Jenny doesn’t know how to run this place on her own.

She says she doesn’t even know how to make a soup.

Kerry takes it upon himself to do all of the work around the restaurant until he explodes.

Jenny says if Country Cow fails, she would be devastated as she doesn’t want to be a failure.

Robert meets with Jenny and Kerry to talk about their history.

Jenny says that Kerry has intense anger issues.

She implies that Kerry is acting nice right now because Robert is here.

Robert plays footage that his camera team recorded a few months ago.

Kerry yells a lot and becomes really aggressive and he says that it’s not always like this.

Kerry says that he doesn’t want to be in business with Jenny anymore.

There is footage of Kerry calling Jenny lazy.

It seems like Kerry just wants to find someone else to blame for everything going on at the restaurant.

Robert wants to find out why Jenny is so adamant that they continue to be business partners.

Kerry admits that he would like to not be a part of this business anymore.

Robert wants to try the food and see how the service is.

The customers think that the decor of the restaurant is dated.

The servers tell Robert a little more about how Kerry is when he’s angry.

However, all Robert sees is a very quiet kitchen.

The workers tell Robert that this is an act.

Kerry thinks Robert is trying to get a reaction out of him.

Kerry has admitted that his anger stems from his upbringing.

The customers think that the food isn’t very good and needs a lot of improvement.

Robert meets with Cheryl, his design expert.

They begin taking everything out of the restaurant to start the remodel.

Kerry says he feels like nobody knows him at the restaurant.

Robert tells him that he needs to let them in in order for them to really know him.

Robert uncovers that Kerry feels guilty for not being able to say goodbye to his dad.

He had to work through his father’s funeral.

Robert gives the staff a sign that says Jenny on one side and Kerry on the other.

He asks them who they respect the most and the majority of them respect Kerry more.

Robert asks who they think could run this business without the other and everyone says Jenny.

He asks who they would rather work for and they all say Jenny again.

Robert wants to show Kerry how much his anger affects the staff and the business.

He also wants the staff to realize the stress that Kerry and Jenny are under.

Robert told Kerry to either sign over the restaurant to Jenny entirely or get it together and make it work.

Robert meets with Kerry and Jenny and he asks for his decision.

Kerry has decided to walk away from the restaurant.

They created a document that they will have to take to their lawyer to make it official.

Kerry says he is very happy to be walking away.

Robert tells Jenny that he thinks she can handle running this place by herself.

Jenny says that she doesn’t need Kerry and that she can hold it together on her own.

Robert lets Jenny release her frustrations.

She throws rocks into the water in hopes of letting Kerry go completely.

Jenny says that she feels empowered.

Jenny and Robert tell the staff the news about Kerry.

The staff is a little nervous about Jenny fully running the restaurant.

Robert joins the cooks in the kitchen to introduce the new menu.

He lets the staff taste the new food and they love it.

Robert says that the kitchen is in great hands and that Jenny has nothing to worry about.

It has started to rain, which slowed down the construction crew with finishing the project but they do finish on time.

Robert says now it’s time to show Jenny her new restaurant.

He brings her inside and tells her to keep her eyes closed.

Robert tells her to open her eyes.

Jenny is crying and says that this restaurant is so beautiful.

She says that it doesn’t even feel like her place.

She admits that she was thinking about running this place by herself and that she didn’t think she could do it.

Jenny says that this is way above what she expected out of this.

She hugs Cheryl and tells her that she loves it.

Jenny says that she can’t believe they pulled this off and that they are going to kill it tonight.

They open up for the first time since remodel.

On relaunch, the staff says that this is a little overwhelming.

They have a great team and they are having a good time right now.

The customers are loving the new menu and decor.

They promise to return to the restaurant again.

Jenny says she can’t wait to see what’s yet to come.

Robert said back then he could feel their pain of dealing with each other and the restaurant.

Jenny admits that back then she was afraid to do this without him.

Robert returns to the restaurant.

He wants to know if Jenny is still running the restaurant on her own.

The inside of the restaurant is beautiful but the paint needs touching up in places.

Robert says it looks exactly how it did when he left.

Robert tells Jenny that he loves that she changed the name.

She says that she changed it back in 2016 as she wanted her own identity.

Jenny enrolled in a 12-week culinary program.

When she came back, she trained all of her people.

Jenny had to call Kerry for a few things while she learned how to run the place on her own.

He even helps her cater events sometimes.

They are friends now and Kerry comes in and eats with his girlfriend.

The year Robert was there they made around $468,000 and in the last year, they made $1.2 million.

Jenny says she thrives on this business.

Robert tells her that he’s proud of her and wants to try the food now.

She makes a Chinese crepe and he tells her that it’s really good.

Jenny has really learned a lot since Robert was here five years ago.

Robert invited 150 people for lunch to test the staff’s ability to keep things going smoothly.

The energy in the kitchen is a lot calmer and the ticket time is less than ten minutes.

The customers love the food and say that it is different to other places.

She thinks her restaurant is at a 9 out 10 and Robert says he thinks it’s a 12.

Jenny says she really appreciates everything Robert has done as it changed her career and her life.

Pomona Golf and Country Club - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Pomona Golf and Country Club

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Pomona Golf & Country Club in Egg Harbor, New Jersey.

Pomona Golf & Country Club is owned by Bruce Ritchie and his cousins Andy and Pam.

Bruce says that they all grew up together and are like brother and sister.

This country club has been in their family for 44 years.

Pam’s dad ran the restaurant and her mother helped.

When they passed, the three cousins inherited it.

This country club is geared more towards the local retired people.

They were primarily a golf course but gradually got more into the food end of the business.

Pam says she loves to cook and they serve lunch seven days a week.

Business was good while their parents ran this business.

Over the past five years, their members have either gotten too old to play golf or they’ve passed away.

Bruce says they can’t keep putting their own money into this business.

Pam says that working with your family is like having to walk on eggshells.

Their nephew, Shane, is the one who called in Robert to help them.

Robert meets with Shane to get his take on things before he meets with the family.

Shane says that the cousins don’t get along well and it is causing the business to fail.

Shane isn’t on the pay roll at the business.

He says he called for Robert’s help because the family all rant to him about each other and he’s tired of being in the middle.

Robert arrives at the restaurant and notices that the inside of this restaurant is very dated.

Robert calls out for the owners to come and speak to him for a brief on the restaurant.

Pam says that last year they brought in $210,000 from the golf course and $33,000 from the bar.

She also says that there was around $23,000 from the restaurant.

They have no debt right now since they own the land.

Last year they lost a total of $1,200.

It costs $135 to become a member of the golf club and Andy says that they have 140 members.

Five years ago, they had over 400 members at the golf club.

Andy wants to get a small business loan to make the much-needed renovations but Pam and Bruce don’t agree on that.

Bruce says that he is tired of working.

Robert goes around the golf course to see how it is.

The issues with this place is the lack of communication and the lack of taking advantage of modern technology.

Barb and George both think Bruce is an issue when it comes to a lack of marketing.

The customers say that they didn’t know this place was open to the public because of how there is no advertising at all.

They also think it’s a little musty and old.

The members of this club love it here but believe that this place needs a little tender love and care.

There are a lot of leaks in the roof.

Robert wants to see a service and notices straight away that the service is bad.

The customers aren’t greeted and the menu is very limited.

Even the basics aren’t taken care of and customers have to ask for utensils.

Food is served on paper plates and not on china for ease.

One customer orders a grilled cheese and it is inedible, despite being a simple order.

Robert orders a handful of things off the menu to try.

The egg salad needs some seasoning and the liverwurst dish is not exciting.

Robert says this food isn’t attracting either golfers or nongolfers.

The menu has been the same for 21 years with no change in items or recipes.

Robert tells Pam that they aren’t going to succeed if they don’t acknowledge change.

Robert walks through the restaurant with his design team.

They begin taking out everything from the place that they can.

Bruce admits that he doesn’t like change.

He says his stomach has been in knots lately and he hasn’t been able to sleep.

Pam says that the physical changes don’t bother her at all but it’s the uncertainty of the new menu that gets to her.

The design team gets to work and the remodel begins on the restaurant.

Robert meets with the family, including Shane.

The three cousins have to communicate through letters because they can’t talk reasonably face-to-face.

Pam says it will take a while to fix their issues with each other because it took them years to get to where they are now.

Robert is asking himself how to get more people into the golf club.

Robert wants to turn the patio into the outside area, hoping that will attract families.

The next day, Robert arrives and checks in with the design team.

They got rid of the carpet inside the restaurant and installed new pendants by the bar.

Robert has a town hall meeting at a local school to ask the community what they want in a golf club.

The people say they would want things that attract kids and teenagers.

One guy says they want to see more advertisements and an online presence.

Some of the people mention that the menu really needs to improve.

Robert goes to get new golf carts and asks for them to be more inviting towards kids.

Robert meets with the family.

They discuss the concept of having family memberships for less money.

Shane says it is refreshing that they are all talking together.

Robert tells them he wants them to discuss together how much they would charge for the family membership so they can offer it in the relaunch.

Robert has them hit a golf ball and say something they are letting go of.

Robert meets with Pam and George to show them recipes he believes should be on their menu.

He shows them a new burger and a fish taco.

Robert gives them the grill he just made the food on.

The design team makes finishing touches on the restaurant.

Robert shows the three cousins their new golf carts.

In two days, Robert changed just about everything at the restaurant.

Robert shows them their new restaurant.

Pam says there is a lot of hope for the future.

Pomona opens up for the first time since the remodel.

On relaunch, the customers love all of the new changes.

They love the new food that is on offer at the restaurant.

The families are having fun golfing and they approve of the family membership price.

Bruce says he is so thankful to Shane, since he is the one who called Robert.

Andy is very proud of the restaurant.

What Happened Next at Pomona Golf and Country Club?

A few months later, business was picking up.

Customers are enjoying the patio.

Pam is still cooking Robert's menu.

They have started using social media to advertise the business.

Pam and Andy are continuing to work on their relationship.

Pomona Golf and Country Club is open.

There are very few reviews on the food as it is a casual menu with just a few items.

Pomona Golf and Country Club was Restaurant Impossible season 9 episode 4 and aired on 13th August 2014.

Paul's Bar and Bowling - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Paul's Bar & Bowling

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Paul’s Bar and Bowling.

Paul’s Bar and Bowling is owned by Paul Awramko and Ed Arzoomanian.

The restaurant is also a bar and a bowling alley.

Paul has owned the business for the last 27 years.

The business is a landmark for the town.

Paul’s grandfather opened up the place in 1929 as a bowling alley.

Paul isn’t married and has no children so the bar is the only life he’s ever known.

The business is suffering and Paul can’t afford to pay his bills.

He is unable to pay his taxes so it is on the brink of closing.

Ed has helped out both physically and financially with the bar.

Paul has arthritis in his knees and is struggling with his health.

Unfortunately, Ed’s money isn’t helping the business anymore.

Robert arrives at the restaurant and think that the building is very outdated.

Paul says they are currently losing $10,000 a month.

They are $250,000 in total debt and the debt is still increasing.

The bowling area has been there since the beginning of the bar.

Robert asks the customers what they look for in a bar.

The younger customers say they wouldn’t be coming back here due to how messy and filthy it is.

The older customers have been coming to this restaurant for over twenty years.

The customers say that the food is pretty good.

The waitress Tina has been working there for 31 years.

Robert orders a burger and fries.

Robert says the food wasn’t the best he has tried and needs a lot of improvement.

Robert meets with his designer Cheryl.

Cheryl says this is the biggest and most overwhelming walkthrough she has done with Robert.

They begin taking down the decorations and emptying the dining room, ready for the design team to get to work.

This building is filled with memorabilia such as pictures, trophies and old decorations, all from the beginning of the restaurant.

Ed says he is sad to see the nostalgia go but that the business really needs it.

Paul is also sad but realizes that this has to be done.

Robert meets with the staff to discuss how they got to this point.

The staff seem to think they are the ones keeping this business running.

The staff says that if someone asked them to, then they would have no problems with cleaning.

Robert points out that they wipe down stuff with rags that are already disgusting.

The staff blames Paul for this.

Robert thinks that the staff takes advantage of Paul.

The design staff is busy installing bookshelves for a back bar.

Robert meets with Paul and Ed to discuss Paul not being able to use technology.

Robert gives Paul homework: he must send Robert messages online.

Ed says that this place is in need of a face lift.

Paul is learning how to use new technology like laptops, tablets, and cellphones.

The next day, Robert arrives and checks in with the design team.

The floor of the restaurant is finally done and they can move on to the rest of the place.

Robert has to open the place up this afternoon but Cheryl says that it’s far from being ready for opening.

Robert brings the staff to a different bar for training.

An expert mixologist will be grading their drinks.

They are overpouring the drinks and need to improve.

Robert has his expert, Joey, sharpen the skills that the bartenders do have and teach them two new signature drinks.

Paul successfully completed his homework.

Although, Paul had to get Ed’s help with sending an E-mail on a laptop.

Robert says that he’s proud of Paul for learning how to use technology.

Paul says that if it weren’t for Robert, he wouldn’t be able to get out of this hole.

He also says that he needs to learn more tools that will help this restaurant be successful, which includes social media.

Most of the world is online now and the perfect way to market your business is on social media.

Robert takes a selfie with Paul and Ed.

The construction crew continues with the work to refurbish the bar.

Robert meets with the cooks and Paul to show them new recipes he wants to add to the menu.

He shows them the right way to make a burger.

Then he shows them a better version of the soggy fries that he had earlier.

They seem to really enjoy the newly updated food items when they taste them.

Robert reveals that he has got them a personal beer tap for the bowling alleys.

At 5 o clock, the restaurant is in shambles still.

It does not seem like they will be able to open up on time.

They begin rushing, trying to get this place finished in time.

Two hours later, they are still putting up finishing touches.

Robert says the customers won’t get their beloved bowling alley back until he’s ready and it is perfect.

Nothing in this restaurant has been changed since it first opened and Robert changed everything in just two days.

Ed says that Paul would take the shirt off of his back for you.

Robert meets with Ed and Paul.

Robert leads them into the building with their eyes closed.

He tells them to open their eyes.

Paul and Ed are amazed by how awesome their restaurant looks now.

Robert brings in Cheryl and Tom to meet Paul and Ed and they exchange hugs.

Robert tells Paul that he’s proud of him for embracing technology and change.

He tells Paul that he did an amazing job.

Paul says that he didn’t know he was capable of this.

Robert and Paul hug.

Paul’s Bar and Bowling opens up for the first time since the remodel.

On relaunch, there is a crowd of people outside waiting to be let in.

Everyone seems so excited to come back into this restaurant.

Paul says that he is amazed by all of the changes.

The customers say that it looks very nice and clean in the restaurant.

One customer says that she believes she would come back here with her friends now.

The customers are loving the food and the overall atmosphere.

Another customer says that now he can tell his mom that he hangs out in a nice place.

Ed is getting very emotional.

He says that he didn’t think Robert could pull this off.

The customers think that everything tastes like it’s fresh.

Robert says that challenges like this are right up his alley.

What Happened Next at Paul's Bar & Bowling?

Business increased 20% in the three weeks after the show aired.

More people were bowling and using the new ipads alongside the old paper system.

They planned to add Robert's recipes to the menu.

Robert revisited in January 2018, business was up 40% and the decor and menu remains the same.

The demographics of the area changed and Paul is skeptical about the future.

Paul's Bar and Bowling 2020 Revisited episode

In 2020, Robert Irvine revisited Paul’s Bar and Bowling.

He visited owner Joe back in 2014 for season 9.

Robert says the thing that stuck out was how outdated it was.

Today, Robert is on his way to go see how they are doing.

Paul sent Robert a message so he is still using technology.

They switched back to using paper scoreboards for the bowling alley.

The customers seem to enjoy the food and bowling still.

Tina and Ed still work there.

Paul was given stem cell injections so his knees are much better.

They now have a taco Tuesday.

They are doing very well with food sales.

The bartenders have added specials to the menu.

Most of the customers order the specials so sales for other sandwiches are down.

This has created a loss of product and are throwing out a lot of bread.

They are using social media to promote the place.

They caught up on taxes for the most part.

Robert asks to try the food and has mixed reviews.

The soup is good and Robert says he would be proud to serve it in his restaurant.

The roast beef sandwich was alright but nothing made it stand out.

The Italian sandwich isn’t very exciting.

Robert shows Ed and Paul how to make a French onion soup.

He adds some bread to dip in the soup.

This will help use up the bread instead of throwing it away.

He also shows them some recipes he believes will make them stand out.

Robert says that these food items will increase the customers needs for alcohol.

Ed and Paul try out the food and they love it.

The customers are a mix of regular and new customers.

Robert tells them that he is very proud of them.

Ed says that this makes him feel wonderful, as if five years wasn’t wasted.

After Robert came, the place became livelier.

They have bands and DJs in the evenings now.

They get different crowds in and everyone likes it.

The customers love the new items Robert has just added.

Paul says that if Robert comes back again in five years, he will be impressed again.

If they get out of debt with no new debt, Robert will be estatic.

Paul and Ed are forever grateful for Robert’s help.

They closed after the owners decided to retire from the business.

Marie's at Ummat Cafe - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Marie's at Ummat Cafe

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits Marie's at Ummat Cafe at Atlanta, Georgia.

Marie's at Ummat Cafe is owned by Jaliwa Owuo and Mikell Hagood.

Jaliwa opened the cafe a little over a year ago.

She was successful at catering so she had the thought of opening a restaurant.

They thought they would just open the place, make great food and give great service.

They believed that this would lead to customers queueing at the door but it hasn’t happened that way.

They are not bringing in the customers and are losing money every month.

They learnt after buying the restaurant that there is a big difference between catering and a full service restaurant.

Many of their customers are from the Muslim community.

They are keeping the restaurant afloat but they aren’t enough to keep the restaurant open.

Mikell often feels bad as he can see his wife getting down over the situation at the restaurant.

When they opened the restaurant they hoped that their children would come on board.

They hoped that it would be able to support their future.

Their children think that their mother is a micromanager and they don’t want to work for her.

Mikell thinks Jaliwa is the kindest person he has met and part of the restaurant was her wanting to give back to the community.

Robert arrives and notices that the restaurant has two different types of tiles on the floor.

The tables and chairs are also mismatched and it doesn’t look great.

He doesn’t think it looks like the type of restaurant customers would want to come to.

Robert meets with Mikell and Jaliwa for a brief about the restaurant and to find out more about the issues they have.

The restaurant was named after Marie, Jaliwa’s mother, who passed away when she was 19.

She wanted to name the restaurant in her honour.

The restaurant is located next to a mosque and most of their customers come from there.

They don’t have any customers from the local area.

The restaurant has three servers, three members of staff in the kitchen and Jaliwa is the head chef.

Mikell is in the Navy and is around for a while before he goes away on a placement.

The couple have five children and they bought the restaurant for them with the hopes to one day pass it on to them.

A month after they bought the restaurant their home burnt down and it was a total loss.

The following month, Jaliwa lost her 29 year old nephew.

Robert asks to see a service at the restaurant so he can see what issues they have.

He is quick to notice that there isn’t a working refrigerator and he will need to fix that.

He can see that Jaliwa is trying to micromanage the staff and it is causing more problems.

She blames the failure of the service on her staff but Robert thinks it might be more to do with the food.

Robert asks to sample some of the food on offer and isn’t impressed with any of them.

He thinks that all of the food is bland and tasteless.

Robert thinks that the mosque next door can be a sense of inspiration for the new restaurant.

Robert goes into the mosque and speaks to them about things to see what he can change at the restaurant in line with their beliefs and standards.

Robert meets with his designer Taniya and they talk about the changes to be made to the restaurant.

They have just 48 hours and $10,000 to transform the restaurant.

Robert calls Mikell and the rest of the staff to remove the furniture from the restaurant, ready for the design team to get to work.

Robert has gathered their children in the mosque to find out why none of them want to work at the restaurant with their mother.

They air their grievances about the restaurant and their mothers management style.

She feels like it was an eye opener as she didn’t realise that was how she was acting and she promises to change.

Before he finishes for the day, Robert checks in with the design team and encourages them to speed up to finish on time.

The next day, Robert arrives and checks in with the design team.

He is impressed with the progress that they have made overnight.

Robert leaves to speak with Jaliwa and it is clear that she realizes she is imposing on her children.

Forcing them to work in the restaurant isn’t working and they need to decide whether to stay or go.

They do an exercise where they release balloons to symbolize their release from the restaurant.

Without the children being forced to work there it should relieve a lot of the tension at the restaurant.

As Robert wasn’t impressed with the food the previous day he has come up with a new menu.

In the kitchen he teaches Jaliwa and her son some kitchen basics and how to prepare some new dishes.

They come out of the session more confident about the relaunch that evening.

The kitchen staff continue to prep and learn the dishes ready for the evening service.

Meanwhile, Robert takes Jaliwa and some of the food out in the community to encourage the locals to visit the restaurant.

“Ummat” means community so it was important for them to go out into the community to engage with the locals.

The design has been delayed by over two hours but they are finally ready to reveal the new look.

The family are overwhelmed by the new look to the restaurant and can’t believe the change that has been made.

On relaunch, the customers are finally let in after waiting for over two hours for it to open.

The customers love both the food and service and promise to return to the restaurant.

What Happened Next at Marie's at Ummat Cafe?

A few months later, revenue had increased by 30-40%.

Customers are now tipping more, up to 90%.

Jaliwa has learnt a lot from the experience and is grateful for Roberts help.

Some of the family are no longer working at the restaurant.

Marie's at Ummat Cafe is open.

Reviews are more positive after the show.

Marie's at Ummat Cafe was Restaurant Impossible season 9 episode 2 and aired on 30th July 2014.

Fork Diner - Restaurant Impossible Update - Open or Closed?

Restaurant Impossible Fork Diner

In this Restaurant Impossible episode, Robert Irvine visits The Fork Diner in Calhoun, Georgia.

The Fork Diner is owned by Diana Forster.

Diana says that this restaurant started as just a big idea.

Three people own the diner: Diana, Michael (Diana’s husband) and Gray (Diana’s best friend).

Gray says that she recently came into some money and was looking for an investment.

She also says that they all had restaurant experience so owning the diner seemed like a good idea.

Michael and Diana invested $75,000, while Gray invested $300,000.

They view themselves as all equal partners, despite not having invested the same.

Michael is the kitchen manager and head cook, Diana is the day manager and book keeper and Gray is the night manager and the marketing person.

Michael thinks that people do like the food, however they just don’t have enough customers coming through the doors.

They owe a lot of money and tensions have never been higher between them.

Diana feels like Gray isn’t putting in as much work as she does.

Gray says that she doesn’t want to work there 80 hours a week.

She would rather this be more of an investment rather than a day job.

Robert heads into The Fork Diner as a guest to see how service and food are.

Robert orders a glass of water to drink.

He thinks that the decor doesn’t seem to match and there are different themes.

Robert asks what this place is known for but they aren’t able to give him an answer.

He orders a handful of dishes off the menu to get a taste for how this restaurant is.

While waiting for his food, Robert asks the customers how they feel about the diner.

He asks them how they are treated.

They say they lost motivation because they aren’t getting paid.

They haven’t been paid in three months.

None of the staff like working with the three owners.

They’re tired of being yelled at and feel like there needs to be more training.

Gray believes that it is time to walk away.

She’s going to help them get rolling tonight, but she will tell them her decision.

She says it’s going to be really hard.

The next day, Gray tells them she would like to sign the restaurant over to them and that she is out.

Diana says that she is disappointed.

She doesn’t understand why Gray won’t give it a chance.

Diana says that this is very sad and she’s not sure where to go from here.

Robert checks in with the design team and the floor looks amazing, it’s all consistent now.

Diana tells the servers that they need to start pulling their weight.

Robert asks them who is going to leave since Gray is no longer part of this business.

They all say that they will continue to work for Diana.

The servers tell Diana how they would prefer her to go about asking them to step up and work faster.

Robert tells Diana that it is important how she delivers her words.

She apologizes for her past behavior.

Robert checks in with the design team and Cheryl created a display for the artwork.

They are reusing the metal sheets to create lampshades.

Robert shows Diana and Michael how to properly cook certain foods, like the French onion soup.

Robert’s construction staff make the finishing touches to the diner.

Robert brings the staff back to the diner to show them all of the changes.

Gray is hoping she will get at least some of her money back.

The new restaurant is revealed and they love the way their restaurant looks now.

Diana hugs Robert.

On relaunch, the diner opens to a queue of waiting customers.
