Top Chef Winners Where Are They Now

Top Chef is a cookery competition reality television show.

It sees chefs compete to be named the Top Chef after completing a number of challenges to avoid elimination.

The challenges are judged by a panel of professional chefs and culinary, food and drink experts.

There was a large cash prize on offer.

For earlier seasons, this was $100,000, but this doubled to $200,000 for later seasons.


Harold Dieterle Harold Dieterle was the Top Chef season 1 winner.

He won after impressing the panel with his 5-course menu of scallops, bass, quail, a beef duo, and a fig tart.

After Top Chef, Harold opened restaurants Perilla (in 2007) and Kin Shop (in 2010).

Both of which closed in 2015.

Harold also opened The Marrow (in 2012), which closed in 2014.

They all had very good reviews before they closed.

Harold released a cookbook, Harold Dieterle's Kitchen Notebook.

In 2017, he developed three dishes for salad bar Chopt.

He opened gluten-free Italian restaurant Tali & Tali Dolce, which closed in June 2018.

Harold is currently Executive Chef at Ten Hope, the restaurant he opened in 2019.


Ilan Hall Ilan Hall was the Top Chef season 2 winner.

He won after impressing the judges with his 5-course menu of eel and caviar small stack, gazpacho, squab, short rib, and a fruit soup.

After Top Chef, Ilan opened restaurant The Gorbals (in LA) in 2009.

He opened a second restaurant (in Brooklyn) in 2014.

Ilan planned to move the LA restaurant and make it a vegan restaurant.

The restaurant never reopened after closing.

His Brooklyn restaurant became Esh, a Middle-East barbecue restaurant.

The restaurant closed in September 2016.

Ilan had his own television show, Knife Fight, on the Esquire Network.

He is the Executive Chef and co-owner of Ramen Hood.


Hung Huynh Hung Huynh was the Top Chef season 3 winner.

He won after his 4-course menu of fish and chips, shrimp, sous-vide duck, and chocolate molten cakes impressed the panel.

After Top Chef, Hung returned as a guest chef on the show.

He was the Executive Chef at Solo restaurant in New York City during 2008/9.

Hung was later Executive Chef at Ajna Bar from 2009 to 2011.

He opened a number of restaurants with EMM group but cut ties in 2015 due to creative differences.

Hung did several pop-up events and became a restaurant consultant.

He was Chef de Cuisine at Morimoto Asia.

In November 2019, he opened Warrior in Los Angeles to excellent reviews.

Two locations of Asian Street Eats by Chef Hung Huynh opened but closed in less than a year.

Hung is currently the Director of Culinary Innovation of Omei Restaurant Group.


Stephanie Izard Stephanie Izard was the Top Chef season 4 winner.

She won after her 4-course menu consisting of snapper, quail and lobster ravioli, lamb, and a pound cake impressed the panel.

After Top Chef, Stephanie is Executive Chef and Partner at both Girl & the Goat and Little Goat in Chicago.

She has received several accolades, including being nominated to the Macy's Culinary Council.

Stephanie released the cookbook Girl in the Kitchen in 2011.

She opened her first restaurant, a rooftop restaurant called Cabra, in April 2019.

She opened a further location of Cabra.

Stephanie is co-owner of Girl and the Goat (2 locations), Little Goat, and Duck Duck Goat.

She was the winner of Iron Chef Gauntlet.


Hosea Rosenberg Hosea Rosenberg was the Top Chef season 5 winner.

He won after impressing the panel with his 4-course menu of blackened redfish, three fish sushimi, scallops, and venison.

He made the risky decision not to include a dessert.

After Top Chef, Hosea opened two restaurants in Boulder, Colorado.

Blackbelly opened in 2014 and Santo opened in 2017.

In 2015, he opened Blackbelly Butcher, where he makes and sells his own meats.

Before opening his restaurants, Hosea had a food truck and a farming business.

In March 2024, Hosea opened Blackbelly Market Denver.

Hosea has won a number of honors in the region.


Michael Voltaggio Michael Voltaggio was the Top Chef season 6 winner.

He won after beating his brother Bryan to the title.

His winning menu was cream of broccoli, rockfish and crab salad, squab, and a chocolate coulant with a butternut squash brûlée.

After Top Chef, Michael opened three restaurants ink., ink.well, and ink.sack.

Ink.sack closed in March 2018 after more than 7 years in Melrose.

Michael closed ink. in order to open Ink.well.

The restaurant closed in April 2018 after being open just 8 months due to issues with a partner.

In October 2017, he opened STRFSH, a fast-food fish business with his brother. This closed in 2021.

In April 2017, they opened Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse.

They opened Estuary, a seafood restaurant, in March 2019 and closed it in 2022.

The brothers opened Thacher & Rye in 2020, and this closed in 2024.

Both brothers have appeared on Tournament of Champions.


Kevin Sbraga Kevin Sbraga was the Top Chef season 7 winner.

He won after his 4-course menu of eggplant terrine, red mullet, duck and dumpling, and frozen Singapore sling impressed the judging panel.

After Top Chef, Kevin opened four restaurants.

Two restaurants, Sbraga and the Fat Ham in University City, closed in January 2017.

Fat Ham closed in June 2017.

Juniper Commons closed in May 2015 after just six months in business.

After the closures, he became a Private chef and consultant.

Kevin opened Sonny & Sons, a hot chicken restaurant in June 2019.

He was a guest chef on MasterChef.

Kevin is currently Vice President of Operations, Food Halls & Restaurants at Legends.


Richard Blais Richard Blais was the Top Chef season 8 winner.

He won after impressing the panel with his 4-course menu of sweetbreads, pork belly, beef short rib, and cornbread with foie gras ice cream.

After Top Chef, Richard appeared on Iron Chef America and Chopped All-Stars.

In 2014, he started the culinary company Trail Blais, Inc.

He has opened four restaurants.

These include Juniper & Ivy, The Crack Shack, California English, and Ember & Rye.

Richard has released three cookbooks.

His most recent cookbook is So Good: 100 Recipes from My Kitchen to Yours from 2023.

He is a regular on cookery shows on the Food Network.

The Crack Shack has expanded and now has three locations.

He has made numerous appearances on Food Network shows.

Richard is currently a co-host on Next Level Chef.


Paul Qui Paul Qui was the Top Chef season 9 winner.

He won after his 4-course menu of chawanmushi, sea bass, sea urchin congee, fruit, and coconut ice cream impressed the panel.

After Top Chef, Paul won Best Chef Southwest at the James Beard Awards.

He opened the restaurant Aqui in August 2017.

It later closed in December 2018.

His restaurant Kuneho née Qui closed in the fall of 2017.

In 2016, Paul was arrested on charges of domestic assault against his partner.

The charges were dropped in 2018 shortly before trial.

In May 2018, he opened TacQui in Dallas, but this closed after 6 months.

Paul opened Top Roe, a sushi restaurant, in 2024.


Kristen Kish Kristen Kish was the Top Chef season 10 winner.

She won after her four-course menu of chicken liver mousse, scallops, celery and bone marrow, and red snapper impressed the panel.

After Top Chef, Kristen became chef de cuisine of Menton.

She was there for a year before leaving to travel.

She was a co-host of 36 Hours on the Travel Channel.

Kristen released her first cookbook, Kristen Kish Cooking: Recipes and Techniques in 2017.

In June 2018, she opened her first restaurant, Arlo Grey, in Austin, Texas.

Kristen is a co-host on TruTV's cooking competition show Fast Foodies.

She is also a host on Restaurants at the End of the World.

In 2024, she became a host on Top Chef.


Nicholas Elmi Nicholas Elmi was the Top Chef season 11 winner.

He won with his 4-course menu of hamachi and Tuna, shrimp bisque, duck, and white chocolate panna cotta.

After Top Chef, Nicholas opened his first restaurant, Laurel, in Philadelphia.

He later opened the bar ITV in 2016, which closed in 2023.

Nicholas opened Royal Boucherie in November 2017, but it closed in 2021.

In September 2019, Nicholas released his first cookbook called Laurel: Modern American Flavors in Philadelphia

In 2021, he opened 2 restaurants - Lark and The Landing Kitchen.

He opened The Pump House in 2024.


Mei Lin Mei Lin was the Top Chef season 12 winner.

She won after her 4-course menu of octopus, congee, duck, and strawberry lime curd impressed the judging panel.

After Top Chef, Mei was a private chef for Oprah.

She travelled and did a number of cookery events.

Mei also did pop-up dining experiences around the world.

She opened her first restaurant, Nightshade restaurant, in December 2018.

The restaurant has excellent reviews and has received many honors.

In 2021, she opened her second restaurant, Daybird.

Mei won season 4 of Tournament of Champions.


Jeremy Ford Jeremy Ford was the Top Chef season 13 winner.

He won after his 4-course menu of foie gras, branzini, duck, and a ricotta and mozzarella cheese cylinder impressed the judges.

After Top Chef, Jeremy took a break from the kitchen.

He later opened the restaurant Stubborn Seed in Miami Beach.

In May 2019, he opened Krun-Chi in Time Out Market Miami.

He opened The Butchers Club in PGA National Resort & Spa.

In 2022, he won his first Michelin star for Stubborn Seed.

The restaurant was also awarded in 2023 and 2024.


Brooke Williamson Brooke Williamson was the Top Chef season 14 winner.

She won after her 4-course menu of oyster, octopus, pork belly, and a rum and chamomile flan impressed the panel.

Brooke was also the Top Chef season 10 runner-up.

After Top Chef, Brooke opened a number of restaurants with her husband Nick Roberts.

Their restaurants are Hudson House, The Tripel, Playa Provisions, and Da Kikokiko.

Brooke was the Tournament of Champions season 1 winner.

She has appeared on a number of Food Network shows.


Joseph Flamm Joseph Flamm was the Top Chef season 15 winner.

He won after impressing the judges with his 4-course menu of Tuna, pighead tortellini, beef ribeye, and brown sugar cake.

After Top Chef, Joseph was Executive Chef at Spiaggia and Café Spiaggia.

He is now a father after his son was born in January 2019.

Joseph is the Culinary Director of Day Off Group.

In April 2021, he opened his first restaurant, Rose Mary.


Kelsey Barnard Clark Kelsey Barnard Clark was the Top Chef season 16 winner after her 4-course menu impressed the panel.

After Top Chef, Kelsey used the prize money to renovate her restaurant, KBC.

In August 2021, she released her first cookbook, Southern Grit. 

Her second cookbook, Southern Get-Togethers was released in 2024.

In 2024, she signed a book deal for two further cookbooks.

She was a 2024 James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef: South.

Kelsey did a book tour, with a mix of cooking demos and meet and greets.

She has competed on Seasons 3,4 and 5 of Tournament of Champions.


Melissa King Melissa King was a chef and brand ambassador from San Francisco, California.

She originally appeared in Top Chef season 12.

Melissa was the Top Chef season 17 winner.

She won after impressing the judges with her Italian and Chinese flavour combination and her range of techniques.

After Top Chef, Melissa returned to her company, providing culinary services and partnerships.

She has hosted a number of virtual cookery demonstrations.

He originally appeared in Top Chef seasons 7 and 8.

Angelo was eliminated in episode 2 after his tuna curry dish didn't come together.

After Top Chef, Angelo was the Culinary Director at Small Barn.

He volunteers to help serve food in the community as a part of Feeding San Diego.

Angelo is a restaurant owner.

He opened Tía Carmen in 2022 and later opened Kembara.


Brian Malarkey Brian Malarkey was an Executive Chef/Restaurant Owner from San Diego, California.

He originally appeared in Top Chef season 3.

Brian was eliminated in episode 11 after his veal dish was confused and mismatched.

After Top Chef, Brian returned to being Executive Chef at his restaurant Herb & Wood and Animae.

He also owns many other restaurants with his business partner, Christopher Puffer.

He offered virtual cookery lessons on his website.

Brian regularly appears on Guy’s Grocery Games and Tournament of Champions.

He is the host of Beachside Brawl.


Bryan Voltaggio Bryan Voltaggio was an Executive Chef and Restaurant owner from Frederick, Maryland.

He originally appeared in Top Chef season 6 and Top Chef Masters 5.

Bryan was a season 17 runner-up after serving an overly thick chocolate mousse.

His lasagne and monkfish dishes impressed the judges.

There was disagreement between the judges on the focaccia.

After Top Chef, Bryan returned to Maryland.

He cooks at the restaurants that he co-owns with his brother Michael.

Five of the restaurants have closed since 2020.

Three of their restaurants remain open.

In 2022, he appeared on Guy Fieri's Tournament of Champions.


Eric Adjepong Eric Adjepong was an Executive Chef and Restaurant owner from Washington, DC.

He originally appeared on Top Chef season 16.

Eric was eliminated in episode 7 during the Restaurant Wars challenge.

The judges weren't impressed with either his duck or shrimp dish and found the concept muddled.

After Top Chef, Eric returned to Pinch & Plate.

He had plans to open his own counter, On The Double, in 2020, but this was delayed.

Eric did a pop-up dinner of his finale meal.

He has done virtual Zoom cookery classes.

Eric is a host on Alex vs. America and Wildcard Kitchen.

He has appeared as a guest judge on many Food Network shows.

Gregory Gourdet Gregory Gourdet was a Director of Culinary Operations from Portland, Oregon.

He originally appeared in Top Chef season 12.

Gregory was eliminated in episode 12 after the judges couldn't taste truffles in his dish.

After Top Chef, Gregory returned to his position as Director of Culinary Operations at Departure.

He released his cookbook Everyone’s Table: Global Recipes for Modern Health in 2021.

He hosted online cookery classes.

Gregory opened the restaurant Kann in 2022.

He also owns the bar below the restaurant called Sousòl.

Gregory won the 2023 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant.

He also won the 2024 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific.


Jamie Lynch Jamie Lynch was a Chef/Partner of three restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He originally appeared in Top Chef season 14.

Jamie was eliminated in episode 3 after he ran out of time and served his chicken dish without the jus.

After Top Chef, Jamie returned to his previous restaurants.

He also owned and ran a farm.

Joe Sasto Joe Sasto was a Chef and Culinary Consultant from Los Angeles, California.

He originally appeared on Top Chef season 15.

Joe was eliminated in episode 1 after his flatbread became soggy, and there was too much going on with the dish.

After Top Chef, Joe hosted online pasta cookery courses.

He also hosted pop-up dinners and in-person cookery classes.

Joe launched his own range of Puffed Pasta Chips called TANTOS.

Karen Akunowicz Karen Akunowicz was a Chef/Restaurant owner from Boston, Massachusetts.

Lee Anne was eliminated in episode 9 after her oven was set to steam instead of bake for her clafoutis dish.

After Top Chef, Lee Anne returned to working as Executive Chef at the Pioneer Inn.

She was later Executive Chef for Hawaiian Airlines.

She continues to own Koko Head Cafe.

Lee Anne was forced to postpone her wedding in April 2020.

In 2023, her restaurant Papa’aina at Lāhainā's Pioneer Inn was destroyed during a wildfire.

Lisa Fernandes Lisa Fernandes was an Executive Chef and Restaurant owner from Brooklyn, New York.

She originally appeared in Top Chef season 4.

Lisa was eliminated in episode 4 after her Brussels sprout dish was branded as clunky by Padma.

After Top Chef, Lisa returned to her restaurant, Sweet Chili NYC.

Brian opened restaurant The Emory in Boston, where he was Executive Chef.

The restaurant closed in 2022.

Reviews before they closed were very positive.

Brian co-owns Young Buck Deli with Cailin.


Brother Luck Brother Luck was a returning contestant and Restaurant Owner from Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Brother was eliminated in episode 6 after his cocktail inspired canape failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Brother returned to the restaurant he owns called Four.

He opened the restaurant Lucky Dumpling in Colorado Springs in 2019.

Lucky Dumpling closed in 2023.

Brother opened a third restaurant called Eleven18.

He also does public speaking, events, and consulting.


Caitlin Steininger Caitlin Steininger was a restaurant owner from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Caitlin was eliminated in episode 1 after her tomato cobbler failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Caitlin is married to fellow contestant Brian.

She returned to being Executive Chef at CWC.

Caitlin left the restaurant in 2021, wanting to spend more time with her family.

She was co-owner of the restaurant Station Family + BBQ.

They opened in early 2019 and closed in 2022.

Caitlin co-owns Young Buck Deli with Brian.


David Viana David Viana was an Executive Chef and partner at Heirloom Kitchen. He was from Asbury Park, New Jersey.

David was eliminated in episode 9 after his musical dish failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, David returned to being Executive Chef at Heirloom Kitchen.

He offers cooking classes and restaurant service.

David was nominated for a Beard award.


Eddie Konrad Edmund Eddie Konrad was a Chef De Cuisine from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Eddie was eliminated in episode 11 after his boxing-inspired dish failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Eddie returned to his position as chef de cuisine at Laurel Restaurant.

He had plans to open a restaurant, but these fell through in 2020.

After the plans fell through, he was briefly a Private Chef.

Eddie is now co-owner and Executive Chef at Messina Social Club.


Eric Adjepong Eric Adjepong was a chef and owner at Pinch & Plate pop-up dining from Washington, DC.

Eric was eliminated in episode 15 and came in third place.

After Top Chef, Eric owns a catering company, Pinch & Plate, with his wife Janell.

They offer pop-up dining experiences, private dining experiences, and events.

Eric was named one of People's Sexiest Chefs alive.

Justin Sutherland Justin Sutherland was an Executive Chef and restaurant owner from St. Paul, Minnesota.

Justin was eliminated in episode 12 after his Yellowtail dish failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Justin returned to his restaurant Handsome Hog as Executive Chef.

He also owns Stillwater's Pearl & the Thief.

After Top Chef, Kelsey used the prize money to renovate her restaurant, KBC.

The Flavor of Fire: Recipes for Grilling & Smoking with Southern Flair is due for release in May 2026.

Kevin Scharpf Kevin Scharpf was an Executive Chef and Owner at Brazen Open Kitchen & Bar. He was from Dubuque, Iowa.

Kevin was eliminated in episode 3 after his Ricotta dessert with over-salted cherries failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Kevin returned to Brazen, the restaurant that he owns.

He has opened further restaurants since 2019.

These include Brazen Reserve and Ottos.

Kevin also owns a food truck called Birds. Serious Chicken.

He is the co-founder of Project Rooted.

In 2022, he was a James Beard Semifinalist for Best Chef: Midwest.


Michelle Minori Michelle Minori was an Executive Chef from San Francisco, California.

Michelle was eliminated in episode 10.

She rejoined the competition in episode 12 as the winner of Last Chance Kitchen.

Michelle was eliminated again in episode 14.

After Top Chef, Michelle is working as a restaurant consultant.

She also offers private chef services, events and cooking classes.

Michelle was Head Of Research And Development at Off the Grid.

She later became Associate Culinary Director at The Culinary Edge.


Natalie Maronski Natalie Maronski was an Executive Chef from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Natalie was eliminated in episode 2 after her Lemon Curd pie failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Natalie is co-owner and Executive Chef of the Daily.

She is also co-owner of Underground Concepts.

Natalie has done several cookery events and pop-up dining experiences.


Nini Nguyen Nini Nguyen was an Executive Chef from Brooklyn, New York.

Nini was eliminated in episode 5 after her dessert failed to impress the judges.

After Top Chef, Nini returned to Cook Space, teaching culinary classes.

Nini returned for season 17/All Stars.


Pablo Lamon Pablo Lamon was a Chef De Cuisine from Miami Beach, Florida.

Pablo was eliminated in episode 5 after his scallops failed to impress and due to his worsening performances.

After Top Chef, Pablo returned to his position as Chef de Cuisine at 27 Restaurant & Bar.

He later became Executive Chef at Nativo Kitchen + Bar.

Pablo is Executive Chef/Co-Founder of Lamon Culinary Group.

He was a Culinary Instructor at Mariano Moreno Culinary Institute.


Sara Bradley Sara Bradley was a chef and restaurant owner from Paducah, Kentucky.

Sara was the season 16 runner-up after her bacon dish let her down despite her strong menu.

After Top Chef, Sara returned to her restaurant freight house.

She had her first child in June 2019.

Sara is a member of Cartel, a local charitable cooking organization.
