Episode Recap


Gordon Ramsay visits Murphy's, California, to help the towns oldest building, Murphy's Hotel. Gordon learns that the hotel has become a place where people party all night and keep other guests awake.  Gordon arrives at the hotel and after a tour of the hotel is taken to his room, the "Ulysses S Grant Room" and says that it smells like a museum.  Gordon leaves his room and heads for the restaurant where he meets owner Brian, who introduces him to the other owners Joel and Kevin. They all sit down to discuss the hotel and Gordon becomes confused as they insist they all contribute equally to running the restaurant. Gordon heads into the dining room and is surprised by the bright pink dining room. Gordon orders the escargot, a halibut dish and lamb shank. He isn't impressed with the food, saying that the escargot tastes like socks, is still part frozen and the lamb shank looks like a plate of vomit. He calls Kevin and Brian over and insists that they try the food, they are shocked when they find that the food is as disgusting as Gordon says it is,

Meanwhile the front desk has been left unattended and as they have no staff to man the front desk there is a sign telling customers to go to the bar and the guests end up wandering around. Gordon heads into the kitchen and decides to check out the walk-in, which is full of old, rotten and mouldy food. Gordon brings the owners in who insist that they clean it twice a week, unsurprisingly Gordon doesn't believe them. Gordon decides to head up to his room at 1am but his room is above the bar and they are still partying below. Gordon goes down to the bar to ask for a quieter room and finds a very drunk Brian ripping his shirt off. He tells Gordon that he is stinking drunk because of the state of the walk-in and Gordon tells him to go home. He is moved to another room which is meant to be quieter but that one is just as loud. Gordon decides against having a shower in the bathroom in the morning as it is disgusting.

Gordon heads down to the restaurant and tells all the staff to gather for a staff meeting. They tell Gordon that the owners party in the bar and give away free drinks to their friends. Gordon tells them that this needs to stop and that one owner has to step up and be the general manager. Brian volunteers, promising Gordon that he will stop drinking whilst working and step up to the plate. Gordon's team work over night to renovate the hotel and the owners return the next day for the reveal. They are impressed with the new look lobby, Gordon also reveals they have worked on all of the rooms in the hotel and there is a new online booking system. Gordon gives them a tour of the hotel ending in the new dining room which is no longer pink. He has also transformed the menu  and has added a wine tasting menu.


What Happened Next? 


One regular visitor posted on Trip Advisor that they thought the changes that Gordon had made in the restaurant were wrong, with many favourites being removed. These comments aren't felt by all as others are thrilled with the new menu on offer.

Gordon Ramsay visits The Curtis House Inn, WoodburyConnecticut, the oldest Inn in the state. Gordon is greeted by owners TJ and brother Chris, they constantly argue and this is affecting the business but also their relationship. The staff don't like the owners and have very little respect for them and the hotel has lost loyal customers. Gordon arrives on Mother's Day to find that he is the only guest booked into the hotel and that as he has arrived early he will have to pay a $40 early check in fee. The check in clerk is also surprised that Gordon is booked in room 16 as there is said to be a ghost in the room. When Gordon arrives in the room all he finds is a footprint on his pillow, dead flies on the windowsill and that the door doesn't lock!

Gordon goes downstairs and meets with TJs mother who moans that she has worked every holiday but doesn't get paid. Gordon is served by Karen, TJs niece, who tells Gordon that her aunt and uncle barely speak and when asked about the crab cakes she says they are hit or miss. He orders the crab cakes, calamari and a burger. Both the crab cakes and calamari are terrible and the burger is raw in the middle. Gordon goes into the kitchen to see chef Chris who is slopping food on the plate and using a dirty cloth to wipe the plates. 

After a rough nights sleep, Gordon heads into the bathroom for a shower. Gordon meets with TJ and Chris and can't believe that they don't talk. The staff join the meeting and tells them that they have had enough of the situation. Bev tells them that she can't work there anymore as the place is destroying her. Gordon asks the two to join him and some of the guests who are to give them feedback, they tell them that the sheets were dirty, windows unwashed and there is broken equipment. Gordon reveals to the guests that all of their personal information is left publicly in a notebook on the front desk. Gordon goes to speak to their mother and a family intervention is organised to try and heal the relationship. They tell TJ that she is working to hard and she needs to work more on talking to her brother, they recall when everyone got along and everyone used to love working there. They commit to making it work and they hug and make up.

Gordon's design team works overnight and transforms the Inn, the reception area has silhouettes of the family on the wall and they now have a computer. Gordon has also fixed the lock on Room 16 and given it a makeover. Next he calls everyone down to the restaurant to have everyone sample the new menu. For relaunch everyone is working well together and Chris is taking pride in his food. Gordon's last task is to call in a paranormal expert to review the Inn to see if it is haunted. The expert concludes the Inn is haunted and Gordon gives them a plaque as they will be registered as haunted.


What Happened Next? 


Bookings are up and people want to visit to see the Inns spiritual visitors. Trip Advisor and Yelp reviews for Curtis House Inn are very good however some regulars appear to dislike the changes in the restaurant. A Trip Advisor review in August of the restaurant appears to suggest they have gone back to the old menu.

Gordon Ramsay visits the Four Seasons Inn in West Dover, Vermont, he arrives expecting the luxury 5 star chain hotel and instead finds a dog friendly inn. Owner Sandy is oblivious to the problems at the Inn , he calls the hotel a little slice of heaven but the rooms and attached kennels are empty and Sandy places all the blame on his marketing man. Finances are tight so the staff don't get paid, instead get free accommodation in the hotel. His best friend Layla wanders free around the hotel but not all guests like dogs or appreciate the dog hair. Strangely he bumps into a hula hoop instructor who lives there for free, she also does housekeeping but originally came to be a massage therapist.

Gordon goes down to the kitchen and meets Gwen who brings him some Curry bread which Gordon remarks is too doughy. Gordon's ravioli looks and tastes terrible. Gordon meets Richard, the marketing man and is surprised that Sandy hasn't come to greet him. Gordon goes into the kitchen and discovers that no one knows what they are doing and Steve complains that it's not his menu he is cooking. Gordon asks for 5 minutes with Sandy outside and asks him what the house is, Sandy tells him that it is the kennel. The hotel is busy and the servers are left to man the front desk, leading to customers being overcharged. Sandy wants to run and hide in the kitchen but Gordon instead gathers everyone together, the staff tell him that none of them get paid. 

Gordon has a terrible nights sleep and decides to go to the pool the next morning where he finds dog poo in the pool and settles with the hot tub. Gordon decides to sit Sandy down with the guests. They say although they love dogs, they don't expect dog hair on plates or in their bed. Gordon brings out the black light and there are revolting body fluids everywhere, many guests ask to leave early disgusted at what they have seen. Gordon has a chat with Sandy and tells him that he is not a chef, he needs to be the Innkeeper and Gordon reveals to the staff that Sandy is now to be the manager. They ceremonially burn Sandy's chef outfit


Overnight, the Hotel has been renovated and Sandy steps in to his new role wearing a suit. Gordon decides to change the name to Layla's Riverside Lodge, disassociating them with the Four Seasons. The menu has had a revamp, serving dishes created with local produce including a Vermont Cheesecake. The bedrooms have been updated and the carpets have been deep cleaned. There is $100,000 of new linen and dog beds have been provided. Gordon has also revamped the kennels and he brings his own dog to stay and asks others to bring in their dogs. He then reveals they are to host a dog agility event and he has hired a dog consultant to help with the canine side of the business. The guests are impressed with the new rooms, the food and the beds for the dogs. A returning guest remarks that it is better than her previous stay. Sandy reveals that everyone will be put on the payroll and will be receiving a pay check.

What Happened Next? 


The hotel was renamed to Layla's Riverside Lodge during the show named after Layla to promote the dog friendliness of the hotel. Bookings are up as a result and Sandy has received numerous messages of support from viewers.

Gordon Ramsay visits Calumet Inn in Pipestone, Minnesota, to help sisters Rina and Vanda who are struggling to keep their hotel open, they were bought the hotel by their father but within 6 weeks Rina left for 3 months as it had become too much. Vanda doesn't get up before 3 and believes that the staff don't care, they are just there for the money. Jocelyn, who runs front of desk thinks they are terrible to work for and reveals that they took all the duties away from Mandy, the General Manager as they think know better. Their parents have been forced to come work for them to help keep the place open, their mother Rita is working 7 days a week to help them out.

Gordon arrives at the hotel and compares it to a prison, the only entrance open is the dark rear entrance. Upon shouting for someone, Mandy sees Gordon and apologises as it is just her in the hotel today.  Gordon tells her to go watch her diners so she calls Kate down. Gordon notices that there is a light bulb missing from a lamp and is told that that is so people can't turn the lights on! He also asks why Mandy is both running the desk and serving and is told she is the GM, Rina remarks that she's not happy with Mandy.

Gordon is shown to one of the hotel rooms, he finds a mouldy refrigerator and a rail for a wardrobe. They tell him the one who takes the light bulbs out is their dad. Rina explains that their parents help out and that once she saw the hotel she talked her father buying it for her. They explain that they stayed there one night before purchasing the hotel and take him to the room she stayed in. Gordon notices the stains on the wallpaper and it's hardly a showroom! 

Gordon heads down to the restaurant and is served by Jocelyn who tells him that she has been there for 2 years. Gordon notes that the menu is huge, he orders the soup of the day and a fish dish. There is drama and Mandy comes in and explains she is no longer GM, Vanda is a socio path and Rina is never at the hotel. Gordon tastes the soup and says it smells burnt and is disgusting. The fish is no better as it's rock hard. Chef Jennifer explains that she used to love her job but not anymore as the sisters are bad owners. Both Rina and Vanda get snappy and threaten not to pay anyone. Gordon tells them that they have turned the staff against them and they can only be as good as the staff they hire.

 As Gordon there, the guests flock in but are not impressed with the rooms.  Gordon  believes the huge menu is the problem as they are unable to send out quality food. Gordon finds Rina in floods of tears with mother Rita who explains that she runs away when things get tough. Gordon speaks to Mandy telling her she acts more like an owner whilst the sisters tell her she's not committed and she explodes about working 60 hours a week with two children, gets up and walks out. Gordon tells them that it has been Mandy keeping the place open,that they need to step up and don't deserve to own the hotel.

The next morning Gordon heads downstairs to go to the gym and is told they don't have one and to go down the street in his dressing gown! Gordon gathers some of the guests who tell them that their room is run down and neglected, another guest with allergies says her room is caked in dust, they wouldn't come back. He tells them that it will only succeed with Mandy and goes to see if he can persuade her to come back.Gordon tells Mandy that she is a good GM and asks if she had total control if she would come back, she says she will think about it. Gordon gets the girls and her parents together and they all reveal they don't want to be at the hotel. He tells them to bring in someone to manage it or sell it. Gordon calls the staff together and the sister's reveal they are stepping back completely and Mandy will be running the hotel.

The next day Gordon reveals the makeover, the guest rooms are now bright and airy. There are new mattresses and bedding in every room and the rooms have real wardrobes in. Gordon also reveals the new hotel gym and the new restaurant with recipes provided by Rita, the staff try the food and love it. The sisters struggle to keep their nose out and start interfering, Gordon has to step in and tells them to pack and get out. A taxi arrives for them and Gordon gives them each a goldfish to look after to show they can be responsible. Vanda says she is going to go travelling and Rina cries again. The goldfish survival predictions he puts at around 50/50..

What Happened Next? 


Trip Advisor and Yelp reviews are mostly good since Gordon's visit, there are some negative comments but most are positive. It was posted on their Facebook Page that their revenue has nearly doubled.

Gordon Ramsay visits Hotel Chester in Starkville, MS, a hotel located next to a college campus. The hotel was booming when it was bought by David and Sukie Mollendor in 2000 but things have gone downhill and the couple have been forced to file for bankruptcy. Their home was foreclosed and they were forced to move into the hotel. The hotel was running smoothly until David was in a car accident and bed ridden for 6 months. Sukie had to leave her job in real estate and doesn't see that the students could become customers. 

On his way, Gordon says that business should be booming being near to the college but he can't find the hotel and has to ask for directions. Gordon arrives and speaks to David who leaves to get Sukie as she has having problems in the kitchen. David explains that he graduated with a major in hotel management and doesn't think there any issues but reveals that the rooms haven't been updated in 10 years.


Gordon goes down to the restaurant to eat and finds that all the food is Japanese. Gordon sits waiting for around an hour but gets fed up and leaves. Lindsey finds him sleeping on a couch and he finally tastes the sushi, which is disgusting. Gordon tells Sukie he doesn't like the sushi, she runs off to tell David. As Gordon is in town it is busy but an hour into service  the first table haven't even got their food yet. Sukie is having trouble in the kitchen and Gordon learns that she has been struggling  since David's accident. Gordon heads over to a supermarket to pick up some ingredients to cook the waiting customers some food. Sukie tells Gordon that they live in the handicapped room since the accident and learns that he broke both his back, ankles and has been recovering for the past 5 years.

The next day Gordon drives them to local successful businesses, who have listened to what their customers want and they explain that their success is down to the student trade. Gordon reveals changes to the hotel including modernised rooms, a revamped room for David and Sukie and the beer garden has also been given a makeover. The menu has also been changed, featuring local food which will be appealing to the students. A new head Chef is bought in with Gordon paying the salary until they can afford to pay. Young locals arrive andthe beer garden impresses everyone. Before he leaves he takes David and Sukie out for a drive and shows them an apartment he has rented for them for 6 months , they will take over the lease after this time.

What Happened Next? 


Trip Advisor reviews since Gordon visited are mostly very good, with compliments on the friendly and helpful staff.

Gordon Ramsay visits Applegate River Lodge in Applegate, Oregon, owned by Richard and Joanna Davis, they hand designed and built the lodge 22 years ago but since their divorce the hotel has started to suffer. Instead of focusing on the hotel, they tend to focus on hating each other. Richard smokes pot and Joanna struggles with the debt, their two sons Duke and Dusty work there and are constantly fighting. They play music all night so the guests struggle to sleep and are annoyed. Gordon arrives and buzzes at the front desk, Richard ignores it so he sits on the floor. He finally comes out and explains that he was hanging out, Gordon asks about the smell and discovers that it is marijuana, which is legal for medicinal purposes in the state. 

Gordon goes to his room and finds a dirty room with stains and dead insects. Gordon meets  Joanna who is responsible for check in, the banking and appears to be the only person working. She tells him that Richard does nothing all day and is over a million dollars of debt. She sees no profit from the restaurant, that goes to her sons. Gordon meets Duke who says he gives his mother nothing so Gordon tells him about the debt. He next meets Duke who tells him he makes over $12,000 and Gordon tells him that he would kick him out if he were his son.

Gordon observes the dinner service and sees the dog is sitting by the tables begging for food. He speaks to the guests who tell him that they aren't impressed with the rooms. Gordon sees the staff mixing ketchup and Ranch dressing and thinks the kitchen is a joke. The music concert starts at 10pm and is very loud! Gordon decides to go to bed and gets the black light out, the results are disgusting, there are stains everywhere. As a result of this Gordon gets out the sleeping bag and tries to sleep, after failing to get to sleep he goes back downstairs. He asks to speak to Richard and asks him how guests are meant to sleep. Gordon tells Richard that this isn't home and that they are all using Joanna.

The next day the hotel is given a makeover, there is furniture in the check in area so people can sit and wait and the lobby looks great. They have an online system so that guests can check in online and the rooms have been redecorated. The menu has been simplified and Gordon reveals a mini music festival outside so they can still keep the music and there are four outside glamping bedrooms. Gordon tells them that they need to look after each other and stop smoking medicinal marijuana.


What Happened Next? 


 Yelp reviews since filming are good, the bad reviews seem to be about the hotel and weddings and the good reviews about the restaurant. Trip Advisor reviews seem to be mixed, with both positive and negative comments about the accommodation and food.

Hotel Hell - Monticello Hotel - OPEN

Gordon Ramsay visits the Hotel Monticello in LongviewWashington, one of the oldest buildings in town, that looks beautiful from the outside but  owner Philip is an alchoholic and the staff are fed up and underpaid.  Philip is the biggest problem, he is constantly drunk and was charged with a DUI. Gordon arrives and is impressed by the hotel and the amount of rooms it has to offer but sees a lot of cars outside, a terrible advertisement. He goes in the hotel and finds out that all the cars belong to Philip. He also notes that the employee of the month has not been updated for 3 years. Gordon is not impressed with the state of the rooms and finds one room has been turned into a storage room. Gordon meets Ginger and Philip, he is amazed that the two are a couple. They tell him that they are losing $400,000 a year and this is due to the employees!

Gordon goes to the restaurant and meets Debby the waitress. He orders ravioli which is awful and not home made.  Gordon asks to speak to the chef, who tells him he gets 20 minutes prep time a week, has no control on the menu and Philip buys in the food. Gordon speaks to Philip about his DIU, he claims he doesn't know what's going wrong and it's clear he has been drinking today. During dinner most of the customers are elderly patrons and Gordon talks to the bartender who tells him that Philip drinks at least 10 drinks a day. Gordon takes Philip upstairs to a room and gets out a black light, there are stains everywhere and the room is filthy, Gordon tells them that they are ripping people off and don't care about anyone.

Gordon introduces Philip and Ginger to some guests who have stayed at the hotel, their complaints are about how dirty the rooms are, wasted money and none of them would return. Gordon promises some treatment to help Philip with his drinking problem and tells Philip that if he doesn't change the hotel will fail.

Over night the hotel is given a huge transformation, the motel sign is gone. The staff love the new rooms and Gordon tells them that they have the potential to turn their fortunes around. They will now be offering room service with a new menu with local ingredients for both this and the restaurant. 


What Happened Next? 


In January 2014, the lounge and restaurant in the hotel was closed by the owners so they could pursue other endeavours. Reviews since Gordon's visit are mostly good on Trip Advisor, although some are disappointed about the closure of the restaurant and lounge. In September, the property was listed both for sale and lease online.

Gordon Ramsay visits Meson De Mesilla, a 14 bedroom hotel in Las Cruces, New Mexico where owner Cali loves to sing and believes she is as good as Cher. The restaurant only serves one type of food and the Chefs are clueless on how to cook the menu and Cali has husband and wife teamZan and Mitzi to help her. Gordon arrives and is asked to sign a waver promising to cause not damage to the Venetian plaster, in a beige that most of the restaurant features. Gordon rips the waiver in half and tells Cali that he didn't sign it. She explains that the plaster is expensive and that guests should be responsible for damage to it. Gordon is given a tour of the hotel and is shocked that there are 3 different stages for Cali to perform on, he is also shocked when he goes into the kitchen to discover that they don't serve New Mexico food. Gordon and Cali sit down to talk about finances and discovers that she only has $70k left in the bank due to the expensive remodelling of the hotel.

Gordon wants to meet the staff to find out why the hotel is failing. He sits down with Zan, who tells him that Cali is controlling. Gordon is not impressed with the food, saying that it is disgusting, especially the frozen lamb, which is tough and fatty. Cal starts singing and both Gordon and the guests are surprised by her suddenly bursting into song, they are don't like the food or the singing. Gordon goes into the kitchen and finds Dan who has no kitchen experience, he speaks to the bar staff and discovers that Cali is going to sing the same songs. Gordon sits down with the staff and an argument breaks out that results in Zan and Mitzi leaving. 

Gordon decides to take a dip in the pool but sees a poop in the pool and decides against it. The next morning, Gordon drives into town to find David at his other job, a food truck and as there was no breakfast at the hotel, he decides to try something to eat. Gordon tries the food and loves it. In order to help Cali understand the problems, he asks some guests to tell her what they think, they don't like the cleaning waiver, they think the pool is dirty and most of all they hate the singing. Cali says she doesn't care what the guests think and Gordon introduces her to a writer from a travel magazine who tells her that business is not going well and that no one wants to return to the hotel.

Overnight, the place is given a transformation with changes to the rooms, pool, front desk and the restaurant, featuring a new breakfast buffet headed by David. Cali is unsure of the new changes, especially the linen tablecloths and is concerned that the new changes mean more work. Gordon tells her to accept the changes or he'll put all the old rubbish back in. Gordon arranges a pool party to show all the guests the new changes and to hopefully encourage them to return and puts her microphone into a block of ice to ensure that she can't ever sing ever again!


What Happened Next?


 The owner kept most of the changes but has changed some things such as the tablecloths in the restaurant, they are now plastic. They have reported that business has increased since Gordon visited the hotel. The hotel was put up for sale in August 2014 for $2.85 million.

Gordon Ramsay visits the Roosevelt Inn in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, located in an old school building, run by John Hough, he bought the inn and then called wife Tina to let her know. Tina and her daughter Lorien do everything whilst John is only there once a month to run a murder mystery evening. Their marriage is suffering and they are in debt. Gordon is not impressed with the first impressions and the exterior as he drives up to the Inn. When he enters the Inn he is met by an unpleasant smell. John takes Gordon on a tour of the Inn, highlighting the poorly decorated Ballroom, that cost $54,000! 


Gordon is taken to his room in the hotel, it is very pink and Gordon says it looks like "somebody threw up strawberry milkshake" and is astounded to learn that it costs $319 a night. Gordon speaks to John about his apparent casual attitude and John tells him he just laughs at the Guests criticisms and occasionally gets violent with guests if they upset him. John leaves Gordon to have a look around and he finds lots of dust and a dirty carpet. After the inspection, Gordon sits down with the couple to get to the heart of problems in the business. John tells Gordon that they spent $700,000 to buy the Inn and now owe $1.7 million and they have had to sell their house, cash in a 401k and live in the attic at the Inn. Tina tells Gordon that their relationship is suffering and she feels like her life is falling apart.

That evening, Gordon attends the murder mystery evening. John is out front dressed as Sherlock Holmes whereas Tina is working in the kitchen. Gordon is astounded to learn that for all that work John has only made $200. After the evening, Gordon speaks to John and tells him he is more interested in putting on a show than being an innkeeper but John walks away. The next day, Gordon witnesses John cooking a five course lunch menu, the shrimp cocktail and salmon is frozen. Gordon orders a soft boiled egg but John messes up and doesn't take the criticism well. Gordon reveals that he had slept on the couch as he couldn't sleep on the bed and invites John and Tina up to his room. In his room are guests who have stayed in the hotel over the last few months to critique their experience. They complain that the Inn is out of date, the food quality was low but the price was high and that none would stay again. A black light to the bedding reveals the extent of the poor standards. Gordon talks to Tina telling her that John needs to change and she confesses she is on the edge of leaving John.

The next day, Gordon and Tina meet to discuss the ballroom before he meets a wedding planner, who has struggled to promote the space to potential bride and grooms. When he returns he sits down with the couple and John finally admits he needs to change. Gordon begins working on improving the Inn with an all new menu featuring home cooked meals and also renovates the ballroom, with an amazing makeover. Gordon reveals to the pair that he has booked a wedding into their new ballroom that evening for their relaunch! The event is a hit and goes smoothly.


What Happened Next? 


Reviews are mostly excellent since Gordon revamped the hotel. They have reported that business is better and that Gordon's changes have made breakfast easier and better for the guests. They have also named a suite after Gordon.

Gordon Ramsay visits River Rock Inn in Milford, Philadelphia, bought by Ken Pisciotta two years ago. The guests hate the rooms and they lack of the basics such as soap and shampoo. Ken's personal life is suffering at 48, he is single and in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. The staff morale is low and everyone has to walk on eggshells around Ken. 

Gordon arrives at the hotel and there is no one there to greet him at the door, he is finally greeted by Assistant Innkeeper Karen. She takes Gordon up to his room and explains the history of the Inn. Gordon inspects his room and is dismayed to find dead bugs and cockroaches in the bathroom. There is a random chair in the corner and when questioned Karen explains that it is the Wi-Fi hot spot for the building. Gordon attempts to relax in his room by watching TV but unfortunately there is no reception. 

After failing to relax, he goes down to the dining room where Ken explains that he runs an American Bistro with all food made from scratch but when he reads the menu he finds dishes from all over the world.When Gordon talks to Chef Seth, he claims the menu is Ken's and doesn't want to serve it but he has no control. Gordon gathers the staff together and Ken admits to losing $7000 per month. He returns to his room but before getting into bed he brings out the black light and finds a variety of stains and instead chooses to sleep in his sleeping bag.

The next day Gordon meets with the current guests who have complaints and no guest says that they would return. Gordon shows Karen and Ken the results of his black light test and tells Ken he needs to take responsibility so the staff begin cleaning the Inn from top to bottom and Gordon goes for a snoop about. He finds passive aggressive messages such as "If you eat these cookies, take one to your next job interview" and the staff say Ken can be demeaning, Ken is listening in at this point and comes in, apologizes and promises to change. Gordon decides he wants to delve deeper into Ken's control issues and discovers that Ken borrowed money from his mother and brother to start the business. He comments that he has no girlfriend and Gordon realizes the place could use a female touch.

Gordon invites Ramesh Sadhwani, the Vice President of Hotel Operations at Caesars Palace to give them a lesson in Hospitality. She shows them how to greet customers and make a good first impression. Karen shows that she is a natural at customer service and Ken realizes she needs to be at front of house. In order to boost Ken's confidence and to help him with his lack of relationship prospects Gordon brings in a stylist to give Ken a makeover.  After Ken's makeover Gordon takes him out on the town to try to find him a woman, they meet some locals who say they will bring their single friend to the relaunch the next evening. Overnight the Inn is transformed with improvements to the rooms including new TVs, mattresses and bedding. The website has been improved and so has the Wi-Fi access.

For the relaunch night, Ken's mom are brother arrive and are happy with the changes that Gordon has made. Ken is more relaxed and leaves his staff to do their jobs allowing him to mingle more with the customers including the ladies he met the evening before and their single friend. Gordon deems the relaunch a success but before he leaves he hands Ken the phone number of the ladies single friend.

What Happened Next?


 Reviews after the show was filmed were mostly good with regards to the food in the hotel, however some diners report long waits and problems with food. A loyalty programme was  introduced for regular diners at the restaurant and a new menu was introduced.  They closed in December 2014 and the hotel has reopened, reverting back to the Laurel Country Inn with the previous owners, reviews are mostly positive.

Gordon Ramsay visits The Keating Hotel, in San Diego, California, owned by Eddie Kaen, a property developer. The idea of opening the hotel came to him whilst he was looking at sports cars and he thought he could have "the Ferrari of hotels". He hired a sports car design company to decorate the hotel at the cost of $1 million dollars  but spent little on the important things the hotel needed. David, the Assistant Restaurant Manager thinks their menu is a joke and the guests hate the food but Executive Chef Brian has no control and just does what Eddie tells him. 

Gordon arrives at the hotel and is greeted by Boston Terrier called Smudge and met by Christos, who takes him to his room which looks more like a garage and the room is $759 a night! Gordon tries to relax but thinks the furniture looks cheap and isn't functional for a hotel room as the stools are too close to the TV. As Gordon is hungry he orders room service, he orders tomato soup, BBQ Chicken, Pizza and Chicken Parmesan sliders and is surprised that the food arrives in takeaway boxes. He is not impressed with the food and spits the food out dubbing it a "takeaway puke box". Gordon meets Eddie and tells him all of the problems he has experienced. That evening, Gordon meets General Manager Sandra and hears of the guests complaints before a tour of the hotel's restaurant The Merk where he speaks to manager Aaron who takes no responsibility for the issues.

Gordon sits down in the restaurant to have a meal. He meets another manager David who makes comments about the poor quality of the food. Gordon is not impressed with the food featuring dry chicken, bland, tasteless pasta and the weirdest desert ever, a chocolate strawberry pizza with bacon. Gordon meets Brian in the kitchen, who tells him that Eddie is constantly changing everything and he is suffering as a result. He passes out and paramedics are called. The next day he visits Brian who was treated for dehydration and anxiety. He agrees to go back to the Hotel as long as things change. Gordon assembles the staff and guests to hear their issues, the guests complain of cheap fixtures and fittings, rust in the hot tub, terrible room service and they say they wouldn't return. Gordon wants to reinvigorate Brian in the kitchen and shows him some new dishes, he is so overjoyed that he breaks down in tears and vows to stand up to Eddie. Alongside the menu makeover at The Merk, Gordon gives The Keating a makeover with more simplified design and a better, more comfortable design.


For relaunch night, the reception staff are more relaxed and focused on welcoming the guests. The room service is improved with Aaron better managing the delivery. The changes to the restaurant have reinvigorated Brian in the kitchen and all the guests and staff are much happier.


What Happened Next?


Reviews since Gordon left are mostly good but the interior and location are hit and miss with some customers. A suite has been named after Gordon Ramsay in the hotel.

Gordon Ramsay visits the 150 year old Cambridge Hotel in CambridgeNew York,  run by ex serviceman and lawyer John Imhof, who purchased the hotel in 2007 with help from his family, he has no previous experience of running a hotel. The guests complain of dirty rooms and a lack of basic amenities. The Executive Chef Rich brands John a control freak, whilst General Manager Brittany has no control over anything.  They are $750,000 in debt and Tina is refusing to put any more of the family's money into the hotel.

Gordon arrives at the Cambridge and is met by bizarre signs and an RIP Sign, which relates to the ghost of Alice who haunts the hotel. Gordon is shown to Alice's cordoned off "home" on the third floor staircase and to his room where is met by  floral decor, rough towels and sheets full of holes. Gordon meets the owners who admit that it is stunning on the outside but not so great on the inside. Next he hears of the financial situation and is surprised to hear that they have borrowed money from family to stay open. They are planning to sell their home and move into the hotel to generate more money for keeping the hotel open. 

Gordon sits down  to sample the food and finds there is a bad atmosphere in the restaurant. Cook Scooter is not happy that he has to use frozen food and Gordon is disappointed in the apple pie, their unique selling point. Tina admits that John is a great lawyer but is not a good hotel owner and Gordon tells John that he is scaring off the business and Alice. The next morning, the owners are brought to Gordon's room where the guests are gathered. They tell the owners their complaints ranging from stray hairs, broken beds and broken door locks. Gordon then shocks everyone by pointing out the most serious problem he has discovered. The main entrance is left unlocked and with an empty reception, every room key and card details are there for anyone to take. Gordon inspects the haunted third floor where he finds a gimmicky mannequin in the window. 

Gordon reveals his plan on turning the hotel around. He asks Brittany to plan a ladies night with Rich preparing fresh food. Gordon discovers that Cook Scooter is going to culinary school and he hopes to become a pastry chef. Old habits die hard and John tries to step back into being in charge but Tina and Britanny kick him out and Gordon ends up locking John in a room on the third floor. The night is a success and John finally sees that he can trust his staff. 

Over night, Gordon's team works to modernise the hotel with a new modern dining room with wooden floor and white drapes to tune down the floral wallpaper. There is also $75,000 worth of new linen and towels to replace the old ones. Gordon takes them downstairs to the newly named A La Mode Room with a new recipe to serve to their guests. Scooter is in tears at the thought of serving home made pies to the guests. As the guests begin to arrive Gordon make his last big change, to take down the ghastly RIP sign. Before Gordon leaves he meets with Scooter and tells him that he wants to finance him through culinary school and help him towards opening a bakery in return for a fresh loaf of bread.


What Happened Next? 


Gordon's help was a little too late and the Hotel closed in June 2012 after being placed in foreclosure in the spring. Scooter graduated from catering college. John is now working as at Guantanamo Bay Prison as officer in charge of the Office of Military Commissions. The building has since become an assisted living residence.
