In this Gordon Ramsay's Secret Service episode, Gordon visits Neighborhood Kitchen in Whitinsville, Massachusetts.
Neighborhood Kitchen is owned by Mark and Lisa Moon.
He also owns the neighboring bowling alley.
Gordon is let in with a key that has been left for him outside.
In the kitchen he quickly follows a rancid smell to find produce going off.
There is off turkey that is all sorts of colors, old food underneath stoves and grimy stove tops.
They have also failed a live bacteria test.
In the dining area he finds the decor very depressing and he can't wait to leave.
The next day, he surveys the restaurant from his van.
Mark started with the bowling alley before expanding to the restaurant because they needed food.
The experience has not been great as the business is not doing well.
Mark suffered from a heart attack while working.
While he was away his wife Lisa helped out as she is a retired nurse.
She works there often to help her husband who should not be stressing himself out.
Lisa also contributes financially to the business, using her 401k to keep it afloat.
The head chef is Dave and he was hired despite his very limited experience.
Customers come in and are left waiting to be seated.
Gordon sees the restaurant not just serves the restaurant space.
The food is also served in the bowling alley.
The line cook has to run the food through to the bowling alley from the kitchen.
At the bowling alley the food is served next to the shoes that are being sprayed with chemicals.
Gordon sends Rock and Sammi to the bowling alley to bowl and order food to test the health and safety standards.
Sammi is made to discreetly swab the counter the food and shoes are on.
Rock distracts the manager and Sammi does the swab and gets it to Gordon.
They run the test and it is a very poor result.
Gordon orders several dishes from the restaurant.
The food is bland, dry and tastes awful.
He watches them cook using all the bad produce he saw the day before.
On a griddle one spatula is used to cook both raw chicken and a tortilla.
Before a case of food poisoning is reported Gordon comes in to stop the service.
He sends all of the customers out of the restaurant.
Gordon gathers the staff and shows them all the things that they did wrong.
He dumps the box of bad vegetables in front of them.
Mark defends the staff saying that he is at fault and that the food is an 8.
Gordon is blown away by the denial.
While he is trying to get the truth across, Mark walks out.
Gordon follows him to still try to convince him by showing more of the bad produce in the kitchen.
He tells him that he needs standards for both the food and the staff.
Mark is upset and Gordon leaves so his wife can calm him down.
All the staff are upset as they blame themselves.
Gordon talks to Mark but he is stubborn and still resistant.
Gordon goes to his van to watch their reactions.
They are all wondering who the insider is as they connect with Mark.
Gordon sits with him and tells him he needs to separate the 2 businesses for it to thrive.
He finally understands that Mark is stubborn because he is a fighter and that he can use.
Mark is finally open to the help and sees reason with separating the businesses.
The next day, the restaurant has been deep cleaned.
The staff has been given a crash course on running a restaurant and cooking.
The walk-in has been stocked with fresh produce.
Word is also out that Gordon is in town and there are lines around the block.
The dining space has been redecorated with warm colors.
They have new furnishings and a more cohesive decor.
Gordon comes in and Mark admits he was the problem trying to connect the 2 businesses.
There is a new menu and they sample the food.
Gordon announces JP will be running the bowling alley separate from the restaurant.
The restaurant will be run by Matt.
There will be no more running around between the two with food.
The insider is revealed to be Lisa, the wife who could see the struggle.
She agreed with Gordon that the businesses should be separate.
The restaurant is set up and is reopened for service.
On relaunch, customers come in and things are starting off well with the POS streamlining service.
Food is made quickly and served while JP makes food for the bowling alley, running it himself instead of Mark.
Mark is an owner and is both expediting and greeting guests.
Gordon leaves his trailer to cheers from the fans outside and sees the restaurant thrive himself.
He then takes Mark to the bowling alley to bowl and relax while his team handles the restaurant business.
