Spin A Yarn Steakhouse - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Spin A Yarn Steakhouse Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Spin a Yarn restaurant in Freemont, California.

Spin a Yarn Steakhouse is owned by Greek immigrant Saki who bought the restaurant in 1995.

Jennifer applied to be a waitress, they got into a relationship and 2 years later she became his wife.

When business dropped, Jennifer suggested a remodelling that cost Saki $950,000, over 300% of the initial budget of $300,000.

She spent more than $600,000 extra as she didn't check the price of anything she was buying and chose things she liked.

After the remodel, the restaurant continued going downhill again and the couple now constantly fight.

Gordon meets Jennifer in her home and sees a picture of the couple on their wedding day.

Jennifer tells him how they met and how strained their relationship is now.

She admits she made a mistake during the remodelling, picking items without checking prices.

Jen also reveals that the million dollar changes she made are on a leased property and they don’t have the security of owning the building.

Gordon arrives at the restaurant and is confused by the sign advertising the restaurant.

Inside, he is greeted by hosted Erica and the formally dressed waiters wearing bowties and tuxedos.

Gordon makes the waiters simulate carrying a coffin as he thinks they look like funeral directors.

Gordon then meets Saki who takes him round the restaurant to see the renovations.

The bathroom has $50 tiles on the walls, there’s a new fireplace and the bar top is marble. He reveals the bathroom cost $80,000 to renovate.

Saki tells Gordon he initially had a budget of $300,000 to remodel the entire restaurant and they went way over it.

When asked about the theme of the restaurant Saki says they serve seafood, pasta, continental cuisine and are a steakhouse.

Gordon goes back to his table to order and is served by Mary, who tells him that she believes the food is outdated.

The restaurant has always had Greek owners so they have influenced the menu with a Greek theme.

He orders a Greek sampler, a crab louie and a fillet mignon.

The Greek sampler arrives first and he finds it ghastly. He thinks it tastes like most of the ingredients are canned.

The crab louie comes next and it doesn’t smell fresh. It is revealed that the crab meat is also canned.

The last dish is the fillet mignon and it is chewy, rubbery and tastes like cough medicine.

After the meal he meets Mikayla, the owners daughter and goes to the kitchen to give feedback to the staff.

Victor is the head chef and he has 8 years’ experience.

He questions why the food was so poor and he says he is following the recipes that were given to him.

Saki says he isn’t holding the chef back but Victor thinks differently.

Gordon returns to observe the dinner service and meets with Mikayla just before the doors open.

She is 14 but is clued up about the workings of the restaurant but also her parents’ problems.

Gordon goes into the kitchen and finds out they are seriously understaffed.

There is no expediter or sous chef and Victor is washing dishes.

The entrees go out but come back just as quick with complaints and plenty of food is thrown away.

Saki just stands in a corner doing nothing whilst the cooks struggle and the head chef is washing dishes.

Gordon can smell something odd and he traces it to the walk-in, where he finds raw meat next to cooked meat.

There are mouldy strawberries and produce, unlabelled and rotten chicken and raw meat in congealed blood.

He shows the owners and the chef what he found.

It is too much for Jennifer who goes to the bathroom to throw up at the stench of the food.

He calls the owners outside and they are both embarrassed at what he has found in there.

Gordon says he would not have allowed them open for dinner service if he had seen the freezer.

He tells Jennifer to get involved as it is half her fault. Both owners go in and join forces to clean the freezer along with the staff.

The next day, Gordon sits with the owners to tackle their lack of communication and try and rescue their marriage.

Jennifer says she has no authority and Saki promises to give her his support to run more of the business.

Gordon that night, has carved out roles for the owners for the dinner service.

Saki is expediting and Jennifer is going to be helping to serve the prime rib at the table by carving it in front of the customers.

She is uncomfortable with it and when she practices, she is queasy and complains throughout.

Once dinner service starts, the prime rib is popular with everyone wanting to try it and she fumbles not knowing what to do.

She is struggling at every table and is constantly reminded to smile by Gordon.

After Gordon gives her a pep talk and tells her she can do it, she vastly improves.

The next day, Gordon reveals that he is to give them a single cuisine to focus on and transforms the restaurant into Spin A Yarn Steakhouse.

The menu is slimmed down and Gordon believes it will be an improvement on their bit of everything menu.

They sample the new menu, love every dish and enjoy the flavours.

On relaunch night Gordon announces that the San Jose Sharks will be eating in the restaurant that evening.

The restaurant is quickly packed at relaunch and the prime rib is popular.

Saki is motivating Victor to do better and the dishes are a hit with the diners.

Jennifer slices huge slices of the prime rib for anyone who orders and it runs low just before the VIP guests arrive.

Jennifer greets them and makes a joke about not ordering the prime rib and they all end up ordering prime rib.

In the kitchen, they panic as they don’t think they have enough but Victor reveals that he ordered extra to make sure they didn’t run out.

Victor and Jennifer together serve the rib to all of the hockey players.

After their meal, the Sharks come to pay complements to Saki, gift him a jersey and they all take a picture together.

Once the night ends, Gordon is complementary of the whole family and how the couple pulled together and made it work.

Park's Edge - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Park's Edge Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Park’s Edge in Inman Park, Georgia.

Park’s Edge is owned by best friends, Richard and Jorge.

The pair have run it for 3 years.

Jorge and Richard met at an airfreight company.

Neither have any experience of running a restaurant.

The food is over complicated and the staff are overworked.

They underestimated what it takes to run a restaurant and made several mistakes.

The Health Department have forced them to close twice for health violations.

Jorge has failed to set organisation or any structure in the kitchen.

He has also failed to ensure the food is to a high quality.

When the kitchen is under pressure, Richard doesn’t help.

He is out the front smiling with customers like nothing is wrong.

Richard put up a tent outside the front of the restaurant without a permit.

They also served liquor without a license.

When the local news came to interview him, he insinuated the neighbourhood was racist.

This was the final straw that alienated them from the local community.

They lost most of their business and they are regretful of their actions.

Gordon arrives at the restaurant after having already done some research into the restaurant.

He knows about the issues they have had with the locals in regards to the gazebo and accusations they have made.

He meets Richard at the entrance and then meets Jorge in the restaurant.

They sit down and he asks about their issues.

They say the biggest one is the neighbourhood and the mistakes they have made.

They are adamant that despite these issues their food is good.

Gordon sits down for lunch and looks at their menu.

He is confused as it has Mexican, Asian and Indian dishes on it.

Amy comes to serve him, and she explains that the grilled caesar salad on the menu really is grilled.

He has never heard of this before so he orders it with some chicken.

Another random server comes in to remove the extra utensils on the table startling Gordon.

He introduces himself as Kevin the Bartender.

He manages to drop a comment on how bad the food is before being called away by Richard.

Amy and Gordon agree it was random for him to come over and remove the cutlery from the table.

Gordon continues to order some oysters and a grilled salmon.

First to arrive is the grilled salad.

He is shocked to see that they have actually grilled the lettuce.

He gets the other diners attention and shows them his lettuce has been grilled.

They find it as funny and unusual as he does.

Gordon finds it hideous as the chicken is dry.

The lettuce hasn’t been trimmed and it is too spicy.

The oysters are disgusting and he asks Richard to taste them.

Richard admits its bready and chokes on the spice on them.

The last dish to arrive is the salmon and the plate is very busy.

He asks Richard to taste this dish as well.

Richard thinks that the combination of flavours don’t work together.

Gordon enters the kitchen to give feedback on his disappointing meal.

Jorge tells him that he went to culinary school and didn’t have proper training in a restaurant.

Gordon tells him he isn’t qualified to run a restaurant.

He thinks that they don’t realise how deep their problem is.

Gordon then sits with Richard to find out more about the neighbourhood problem.

Richard lists all the problems.

These include their lack of a permit for their gazebo as well as business licenses and liquor licenses.

This made them a problem in the community as they weren’t operating correctly.

The racist comment from Richard made it even worse.

Gordon arrives as the dinner service is about to start.

He runs into Richard leaving for a cigarette break and gets him back into the restaurant.

Gordon meets the rest of the cooking staff.

The cooks both have more than 10 years experience on the job.

Gordon observes the kitchen team working hard but Jorge is confused and overwhelmed.

The customers aren’t impressed with the food.

There are complaints that it is too dry, too spicy, raw or meals are cold.

The servers are frustrated with the kitchen as their performance affects their ability to get tips.

The servers have to handle the complaints about the food.

Richard hides out the back or outside.

Gordon confronts him on his lack of a role and him not dealing with unhappy customers.

Customers are left waiting for food and in frustration they walk out of the restaurant.

Gordon inspects the walk-in.

He finds stale and mouldy food produce, spoilt chicken and cooked food gone bad.

Jorge insists the cooked food was made recently but wasn’t going to be served.

Gordon doesn’t believe him and tells him he is lying.

Jorge gets angry and walks away.

The next day, Gordon has a staff meeting with the owners watching via surveillance cameras.

The staff say the issues are mainly from Richard being hands-off with guests.

He drinks wine on the job daily.

The owners are not communicating properly so Jorge is not aware of this.

The staff say they know more about running a restaurant than the owners.

They don’t ask for help and are too stubborn to listen.

They say that Jorge is disrespectful and lashes out at them often.

Gordon then brings the owners in to iron out the issues.

They are touched by what they heard and Richard is emotional.

Jorge apologies to the staff for his failings and promises to change.

Gordon knows that they need to rebuild bridges in the community.

He encourages the owners to go on local news where Richard makes an apology to the neighbours.

Gordon’s team revamps the restaurants decor.

The space has been made more contemporary.

The clashing colours are gone and pictures from local artists are on the walls.

Gordon has also simplified the menu making it an American menu with a contemporary twist.

The staff sample and love all the food and agree Jorge’s previous menu was too complicated.

Gordon brings in his team to train the kitchen staff on the new menu.

Sous chef Matt is not on board with frying chicken wings.

He is taken outside and says that the menu sucks in front of Gordon and the owners.

Matt is given an ultimatum and asked to do his job and get on board or leave.

He agrees to stay at the restaurant.

The relaunch is underway and orders come through the kitchen.

Jorge takes charge and the food comes out fast and to a high standard.

Matt complains as he is making the wings in the kitchen and he is bringing down the morale.

He overcooks a pork belly dish.

When given a chance to correct it he messes up and is rude to Jorge.

He is asked to leave immediately.

The kitchen pulls together to push out the rest of the food.

The customers love their food and the night ends well.

Gordon gives Richard and Jorge some parting words.

They need to support each other for the restaurant to succeed.

What Happened Next at Park's Edge?

In the weeks that followed, the owners continued the community outreach.

Business is on the rise.

Richard is more active on the floor while Jorge has embraced the new menu.

After the show, they kept most of Gordon's changes.

They returned some customer favourites to the menu.

After filming, the Yelp reviews are mixed.

Negative comments are mostly service based and hit and miss menu items.

The Trip Advisor reviews were mixed and negative comments also seem to complain of poor service.

They had failed previously in February 2011.

Park's Edge closed in early 2014.

They closed their lease ran out in November 2013.

They were reportedly looking for a new location to reopen.

The restaurant never reopened.

The website was active until 2020, 6 years after they closed!

Victory Sandwich Bar opened in its space.

Reviews are very positive.

Park's Edge was aired on February 03 2012, the episode was filmed in September 2011 and is Kitchen Nightmares season 5 episode 10.

El Greco - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

El Greco Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits El Greco in Austin, Texas.

El Greco is an authentic Greek restaurant owned by Jake Konstantinidis and his mother Athina.

They bought the restaurant in 2007 with Athina investing all of her money in it.

Jake works as the cook and his aunt Kiki and Athina also help in the kitchen.

Business was thriving when it first opened but it has declined in the last year.

Jake is constantly late for his shifts and turns up just before the service starts.

Anthina and Kiki do all the prep for the service.

They are in the restaurant from 6am each morning.

Jake says he doesn’t come in early because he is avoiding his mother.

She is hurt by his change in attitude.

The food quality has declined and morale at the restaurant is incredibly low.

Gordon arrives at restaurant and meets Jake and Athina.

She immediately goes in for a hug as she is pleased to see him.

They sit down together for a little catch up.

They describe their roles in the restaurant.

Athina explains that her and her sister Kiki also cook in the kitchen.

While talking, a fly flies around them.

Athina has excellent reflexes and catches and kills the fly in front of the customers.

While describing a typical day, Jake tries to paint a picture of an early start at work.

Athina tells Gordon that he comes in at 11am.

Jake says he doesn’t know what the biggest problem with the restaurant is.

Athina quickly says that Jake is the problem.

She says he has changed and he is not happy with the way he talks to her.

He calls her a nag and she says she would rather die than watch what he has become.

Athina says she invested $800,000 into the restaurant.

They are still losing money each month.

Gordon leaves them to go and try out the lunch service in the restaurant.

Gordon spies the kitchen manager Anthony pacing about in the kitchen.

He asks to speak to him about the issues at the restaurant.

He reveals how much tension there is between mother and son.

Jake is only at the restaurant around 3 hours a day.

The rest of the time he is at home playing video games.

Gordon orders a stuffed zucchini, lamb shank and moussaka.

The zucchini has poor presentation.

Gordon describes it as something out of an alien movie.

It is bland and disgusting.

The lamb shank is depressing.

He can tell it has been microwaved as it is anaemic and it tastes salty.

The moussaka is stuck to the plate and he compares it to dog food.

The server Dustin tells him about the Chef Mike they have in the kitchen.

It turns out to be the nickname for the microwave.

Gordon gives feedback to the owners and kitchen staff.

He tells them that there was nothing authentic about what they served.

Gordon thinks Jake doesn’t care as he is unresponsive.

He requests to talk with Athina alone.

Gordon tells her that Jake has lost his passion.

He tells her that those who lose their passion are the hardest to turn around.

Gordon hopes it is not too late for Jake.

The dinner service is fully booked as news has reached the town that Gordon is at the restaurant.

Gordon meets Diego, a line cook who 14 years of experience cooking in kitchens.

He sees meal after meal being put in the microwave.

The 12 gas ring burners aren’t used at all.

Gordon gets into an argument with Jake on the microwave use for every dish.

Jake defends his use of the microwaves by saying he isn't cooking but reheating.

This astounds Gordon who tells him he needs to respect what he is cooking.

Gordon is astounded there are 3 chefs in the kitchen.

Especially as no one is actually cooking anything.

After the dinner service, he gives feedback to the staff.

Jake is rude to Athina and asks her to leave the restaurant.

Gordon has seen enough and he walks away from the restaurant for the evening.

The next day, Athina and her Kiki come in early to prep the kitchen.

Jake had promised to come at 10am to help with the prep.

He is a no show and instead he comes in after midday.

Immediately he is screamed at by Kiki.

She is defending her sister from his lazy behaviour.

Jake is tired and upset and leaves the kitchen.

Gordon comes in and sees Athina and Kiki upset in the kitchen and they tell Gordon about Jake.

He calls in Jake, who says he is tired of the nagging and them ganging up on him.

Gordon gets them to calm down and tells them they all need to wipe the slate clean.

Jake has to start coming early and Athina and Kiki have to stop nagging him.

They make up and commit to work together.

Gordon gathers the staff outside for a surprise.

He goes to the third floor of the building and throws Chef Mike out of the window.

This is them committing to cooking everything from fresh from then onwards.

He works with Jake and the kitchen staff to learn new authentic, Greek dishes.

The staff sample and all love the taste of the new dishes that they try.

Gordon’s team work all night giving the restaurant a makeover.

The dining room has been brightened up.

There is a Greek theme and accents of white and blue everywhere.

Next, Gordon reveals the new menu to the staff.

He explains that the dishes are all made fresh with no microwave involved.

On relaunch night everything is to be cooked fresh to order.

All the food is to be made from scratch.

The cooks are all excited to be cooking properly for the first time in years.

The diners love the meals but with more orders come through Jake starts trying to do too much.

Soon customers are left waiting for the food.

His cooks are left standing around whilst he rushes around.

Gordon talks Jake into delegating to the staff.

The food starts leaving the kitchen again.

Once again tasty, fresh meals are being served to waiting customers who enjoy the food.

The night ends a great success.

They celebrate by breaking a few plates to signify that they are starting afresh.

What Happened Next at El Greco?

In the following weeks, progress is made.

There was positive feedback from the community.

However, the debts were too large and too difficult for them to overcome.

El Grego closed in December 2011.

Hhere were many disagreements after the episode was filmed, according to cook James.

James also claimed that Jake was difficult to work with.

He had already started cutting corners on Gordon's menu.

Yelp reviews after his visit were mostly poor.

There were negative comments on the food quality, menu availablity and slow service.

Local press reported that the regulars were not pleased with the changes that Gordon made.

Many regulars claimed that Gordon removed the authentic Greek food.

They claim that he replaced it with generic Greek fast food.

El Greco was aired on January 20 2012, the episode was filmed in August/September 2011 and is Kitchen Nightmares season 5 episode 9.

Michon's - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Michon's Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Michon’s in College Park, Atlanta, Georgia.

Michon's is a Smokehouse and restaurant owned by Al and Gaye.

Their daughter Natalie also works in the restaurant.

They have owned the restaurant since 2002.

The couple purchased it with the intention of passing it on to their daughter.

The staff say when it was run by Al it ran smoothly.

His smoked meats were popular with customers.

Al fell ill with a collapsed lung.

He needed to take care of his health and passed the restaurant to Natalie.

Natalie is a hands off manager.

As a result the standards have slipped and they are losing money.

Al wants Natalie to take charge but she is not interested in doing so.

He is $200,000 and often watches the restaurant via the CCTV that he had installed.

Gordon meets Al first before heading down to the restaurant.

Al tells him the history of the restaurant.

He wants to retire but his daughter is not ready to take over from him.

Gordon is surprised Al has cameras in the restaurant that he watches from home.

Gordon insists on going to see things for himself at the restaurant.

He arrives and meets Gaye and Natalie and is impressed with the stunning decor of the restaurant.

They tell him Gaye works front of house taking care of customers.

Natalie does a lot of the backend stuff in the back office.

He picks on her saying she likes to hide there.

Natalie is not happy at being told she is not doing much.

Gordon meets server Todesha.

She tells Gordon the only good thing about Natalie is that she makes sure the staff are paid.

He orders smoked chicken gourmet salad, beef brisket, pork ribs with corn bread.

Gordon also orders the collard greens, sweet potato soufflé and a mac and cheese.

He wants mashed potato salad but is told the kitchen don’t like to peel potatoes.

The smoked chicken wings were supposedly smoked in the morning.

The chicken is dry but the sauce was nice.

Gordon is then told the wings were made the day before.

The rest of the food he ordered comes all at once.

The smoked chicken gourmet salad has soggy, old and rotten tomatoes.

The ribs are dry, the corn bread is stale and dry and the black-eyed beans are bad.

Gordon then feeds Todesha some of the beans and she says its nasty.

The beef brisket is dry, rubbery, chewy and can pass as beef jerky. .

Gordon meets Archie, Terell, Kelvin, Joe and Terence who all work in the kitchen.

Not one amongst them is the head chef.

Joe who smokes the meat, admits nothing that he was served was smoked on the day.

Everything was microwaved, only the salads were fresh.

Gordon returns to watch a dinner service.

He finds the kitchen reheating food rather than serving the fresh chicken out of the $17,000 smokers!

He witnesses every meal being put into the microwave.

Gordon finds out they bring all the meat out of bags.

He discovers plastic tubs with hundreds of chicken wings that were cooked days ago..

Gordon asks to see the smoker machine, which is big, high tech and functional.

There are tasty chicken wings currently being cooked on the rails.

Natalie comes outside and Gordon asks her why day-old wings are being served.

Especially when there are tasty fresh wings in the smoker ready to go.

In the dining room, people are sending back all the food.

Gaye says it is a normal occurrence.

Gordon points out the restaurant is highly disorganised.

He brings out all the precooked stored meat and pours them on the counter.

It is well over 100 smoked wings and meats.

The staff are shocked at the amount of meat that is already cooked and will be served to diners.

Gordon believes Natalie is in denial and doesn’t want to be involved.

He asks her to hand over if she doesn’t want to commit and she insists she is bothered.

The next day, Gordon holds a staff meeting with the family watching from the office.

The staff speak their mind without holding back and a lot of the blame is placed on Natalie.

The kitchen think they are lacking a leader.

Their scheduling is awful and communication between the kitchen and servers is very poor.

Natalie finds it brutal to watch and she is ready to step up.

Gordon is touched by her resolve and promises to help her turn things around.

Natalie’s first job is to nominate a head cook.

Terrence is one of the longest serving staff members and he is given the honour.

The staff is shown their new menu based on meat that can be cooked in the smoker.

Chef Adam, an expert in barbecue is brought in to mentor the kitchen staff for a month.

On relaunch night Gordon invites some VIP guests.

There are barbecue experts coming along to test the new Michon's.

Natalie is confident leaving Terrence to run the kitchen so she can talk to customers.

The cooks are having some trouble adapting to the menu and food is taking long to come out.

Gordon gets Natalie to go into the kitchen to straighten things out.

She needs to clear the tickets and the food in the window.

To entertain the VIP guests and distract them, she takes them to see their expensive smoker.

It works and they are excited about it taking pictures.

This gives the kitchen enough time to catch up.

The customers and VIP guests are impressed with the food from the new menu.

Overall, the relaunch is a success.

What Happened Next at Michon's?

Natalie has claimed that the episode has been doctored by producers.

She says it does not show the true facts and was damaging to the family.

She believes many of the conversations were taken out of context.

The College Park branch of Michon's featured on Kitchen Nightmares closed in August 2013.

It closed after Al retiring when his health continued to decline.

The Peach Tree Center Avenue location closed in early 2018.

Yelp reviews prior to the closure of the College Park location were mostly negative.

They highlight poor service, a long wait and poor food.

Trip Advisor reviews were also negative.

They complain of long waits for food, small portions and the restaurant running out of menu items.

In March 2012, the newly opened Downtown Michon's restaurant burnt down in a fire just weeks after it's launch.

Michon's is Kitchen Nightmares season 5 episode 8 and was aired on January 13 2012. The episode was filmed in September 2011.

The Greek at the Harbor - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

The Greek at the Harbor Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits The Greek at the Harbor in Ventura, California.

The Greek at the Harbor is owned by Makis and Lynn Mikelatos.

The couple have been running the restaurant since 1994.

Located in a popular vacation location the restaurant was successful in the 1990s.

Makis is tired, having worked at the restaurant for 17 years.

The standards have dropped along with the number of customers.

Their son Aris wants to get more hands on in the restaurant and try to turn things around.

However, his father isn’t ready to listen to him or take his ideas into consideration.

Makis believes Aris is good with people but he doesn’t work well in the kitchen.

Gordon arrives and is impressed with the busy location of the restaurant.

He meets Lynn, Makis and Aris, sits them down to talk about the restaurant.

He discovers they haven't made any money at the restaurant in years.

They tell Gordon the more time and money they have dedicated to the restaurant, the more it has declined.

Due to the lack of income the restaurant is close to closure.

Gordon is astounded to find out Makis has worked 7 days a week for 17 years straight, without taking any vacation time.

Makis has no plans of handing over the restaurant to his son even though he says he is committed to the business.

Makis rates the food a 10 saying the food and recipes are authentic Greek recipes.

Gordon is served by Demetri and orders calamari, some sampler platters and moussaka.

Demetri is not complimentary about the food when talking to Gordon.

Gordon tastes the first dish and finds the calamari to be very greasy.

As he waits for more food he takes a look around the dining room.

Gordon finds the decor to be dated and hideous.

He also notices two misplaced disco balls, hanging from the ceiling.

The heavy tablecloth is covering up a beautiful table and should be removed.

The hummus is watery and Gordon sucks it up with a straw.

The meatballs are cold in the middle and the falafel is flat.

He finds the moussaka disgusting and demands all the chefs come to meet him by his table.

He tells them the food has been bad and is an embarrassment to Greece.

The kitchen staff complain they are Greek but aren't allowed to cook Greek food how they learned to do it.

Gordon arrives for dinner service and starts with a kitchen inspection.

He quickly discovers all of the food is pre-cooked and reheated.

Marika is the owner's daughter that works in the kitchen at the POS.

The food goes out quickly to the customers but the customers send it back just as quickly.

They have a number of complaints including raw and cold food.

The food along with their profits for the service gets thrown away into the bin.

Gordon speaks to Aris.

He tells Gordon that his father is tired of running the restaurant but doesn't want to let go.

Aris starts a presentation of Greek dancing during dinner including spinning a table with his teeth.

Gordon watches the dinner theatre act in disbelief.

They check some of the food that has sent back.

Gordon is brutally honest about how poor the food is.

Makis gets emotional and leaves.

Gordon takes him aside to find out the source of the tension between father and son but gets nowhere.

The next day, he questions Lynn about what really happened.

He finds out Aris was disrespectful to his parents at his graduation party at the restaurant a few years ago.

He announced loudly that he would make something of his life rather than just work at the restaurant.

Gordon gets all three to sit down together to clear the air about what was said.

Aris had no idea how that statement affected their relationship.

He apologies to his parents and promises to become more involved.

Gordon is still not convinced of Aris's commitment to the restaurant.

He handcuffs father and son, challenging Makis to teach his son.

They do well for a handcuffed pair and make a Greek pasta dish which Gordon likes.

Makis promises to teach his son everything he knows about running the restaurant.

The Design team starts with the makeover.

The next morning a new Greek themed restaurant is revealed.

The walls are whitewashed with a contrasting blue decor.

There are Greek windmills on the ceiling and Greek flag shutters.

They are all pleasantly surprised and Makis hugs Gordon.

A new menu is revealed with a modern twist on traditional Greek dishes.

That night at relaunch, Makis oversees the salad station and Aris is the expediter.

Aris starts well and is vocal with food flying out quickly and the customers love the food.

Gordon gives him some feedback and the rush has an uncooked fish dish almost go out.

Aris tells the staff to slow down and focus on the dishes to make sure they are correctly made.

He spots mistakes and corrects them before they leave the kitchen.

Makis is shocked at how well Aris is doing.

Gordon is impressed with the way he quickly stepped into the role.

Most importantly, the customers love the food and relaunch night is a success.

What Happened Next at The Greek at the Harbor?

Aris continued to lead the kitchen.

He is determined to keep up the high standards.

The restaurant is packed and Makis is considering retiring!

The Greek is still open and their Facebook page shows regular specials, events and new menu items.

Yelp reviews are mostly positive.

Reviews from regulars shortly after the show was filmed didn't like all of Gordon's menu changes.

Trip Advisor reviews are mostly positive with the occasional negative review.

Alan enjoys eating meat had eaten in a number of steak restaurants.

He decided to open a hamburger restaurant to be able to cook with Wagyu beef.

The money was part of a million dollar inheritance from Daniel's Grandfather.

It was used by his father without his permission to pursue his dream of owning a restaurant.

Alan doesn't consider Daniel a partner in the business.

He makes important decisions without telling him.

Alan also doesn't tell him about the restaurants finances.

Daniel feels that his father belittles him and treats him like a child.

He also thinks that they don't respect his girlfriend Wendy.

Gordon arrives and is impressed by the central LA location on trendy 3rd Street.

He also likes the interior of the restaurant.

He sits down with Alan and Jen who reveal they have been open 16 months.

They are losing roughly $6000 per month.

When Gordon asks why, they blame the Burger Kitchen staff.

They have ever changing chefs and servers.

There are also multiple menu changes and a Yelp conspiracy.

Alan reveals they have hired and fired 20 service staff and 20 chefs.

They have also had 10 menu changes.

Alan believes that Yelp are ruining the restaurant.

He believes that they are deleting all of his 5 star reviews and only leaving negative reviews.

They reveal that Daniel usually works the night time.

Alan works in the day time as they can't work together.

Alan reveals that his son has resentment towards him.

He tells Gordon that the thinks the food is a 4/5.

Gordon sits to order food.

His server Marilyn tells him there is a lack of management.

There is no consistency and burgers are constantly sent back.

Gordon orders the California and Cowboy Burger, cooked medium rare and an Australian meat pie.

The food disappoints as both of the burgers are raw and tasteless.

They have doughy or disappointing buns.

The Australian Meat Pie is tasteless and like cat food.

Gordon meets Executive Chef David Blaine.

He was hired as a pastry chef and worked his way up to Executive Chef.

David says that is not allowed to change anything on the menu.

He follows the recipes he has been given and has not been paid his wages.

Jen and David don't get along and David doesn't want her in the kitchen.

They argue about whether a mushroom dish has been changed from the recipe.

He accuses her of drinking and taking prozac.

Jen claims he gossips about her and blame her for problems.

Gordon also discovers that the Australian Waygu burgers are bought in and are frozen.

David is challenged to cook a fresh burger, the Redemption Burger.

Alan cooks a frozen prepared burger, determined to prive they are better.

Whilst they are preparing the burgers, Gordon takes a visit to Daniel at his home.

Daniel tells Gordon that Wendy and his family had a falling out and they don't respect her.

Back at the restaurant Gordon loves David's fresh burger but hates Alan's frozen Wagyu mix burger.

David has proved to Gordon that he is a good chef when he isn't restricted by the recipes he is given.

Alan tells Gordon that he thought the Wagyu beef would be better as it sounds expensive.

He tells Gordon that he wrote a book about his father.

For the evening service, Daniel is sent out to work front of house.

The food speeds out of the kitchen only to be sent back as they aren't cooked correctly.

The kitchen is in chaos as the tickets are messed up and they don't know what half the orders are.

David looks like a deer in the headlights and is unable to keep up.

Frustrated by the ticket drama he explodes and threatens Daniel and is fired on the spot.

The guests start to leave and David comes back.

He returns not to finish the service but for the money he is owed.

David is owed $1000 and doesn't want another cheque that will bounce.

Alan and Jen don't think they even have $1000 to pay him.

They offer to pay the next day but he refuses.

He tells them he isn't even sure they will be open the next day.

They say they will move around some money so that it doesn't bounce.

David remains sceptical and makes more accusations against Jen.

Daniel's partner Wendy tells them he isn't putting in any more cash to the business.

Another argument breaks out.

Daniel breaks down outside but Gordon consoles him.

He tells him that the only reason he has stayed is to help him.

Burger Kitchen Part 2

The next day, Gordon invites them all out to a theatre.

He brings out the Yelpers to quash Alan's conspiracy theories.

There is a Community Manager from Yelp and numerous diners who have posted Yelp Reviews.

They assure him that they are real but Alan still refuses to believe that the reviews are real.

The Yelpers tell Alan that they are giving constructive feedback for him to make changes.

One poster says that he received a response from Alan and was met with a baraage of emails.

Alan has even threatened the Yelp reviewers.

He threatened to report one to the LAPD Hate Crime Division for their review.

A fellow restaurant owner talks on how to deal with Yelp.

Finally, Ramsay gets through to him that he needs to take the criticisms.

They can learn and improve on the negatives.

The next issue Gordon needs to tackle is the family relationships.

Daniel reveals that the problems are mistrust due to them taking his money.

Alan says that he put $250,000 of his money and Daniel put $250,000 of his in.

Daniel reminds him that he didn't put the money in.

He had no permission to use the money and he took the money from him.

He also tells his father that he wants to be on the paperwork.

Daniel wants evidence of ownership and know the financials from the accountant.

Gordon also feels that they need to make the decision of who will be running the restaurant.

Wendy is defensive of Daniel and they agree to try and move past it.

They will try to get along with Wendy for the sake of the restaurant.

Gordon reveals the Alan that he read the book about his father he had given him.

He reveals the same is repeating again.

Gordon thinks Daniel would probably describe him the same as he had his father.

All attention then goes to improving the food and creating a tasty burger for the evening's service.

Gordon introduces a new burger recipe using fresh ground beef.

In the evening, the dinner service begins with Daniel expediting.

There are small hitches but he deals with them successfully.

The new burger is a big hit with customers.

Overnight Gordon's team gives the restaurant a makeover.

There are new murals, pop art and the ugly green colour is gone.

The booth is gone and there is a chalkboard on the way to be able to leave messages.

There is also a POS system replacing the old ticket system with handheld stations for the servers.

The menu has also been updated and shortened.

It will contain new burgers including a new lamb burger.

There are new side dishes including vodka battered onion rings and parmesan fries.

They will also be making their own home made barbecue sauce.

The staff sample the new menu and are impressed with the new food.

There are writers from Yelp, Urban Spoon, Chow and other major review sites and blogs.

Daniel gets off to a good start but Alan just can't stay out of the kitchen.

He is distracting Daniel whenever he goes into the kitchen.

This leads to some food for the Chow table being sent back for being undercooked.

Gordon loses it, urging Alan to get out the kitchen and let Daniel work.

Gordon tells them Daniel did a great job on relaunch.

Alan says that Daniel is doing a good job on running the restaurant.

Alan and Jen promise to let Daniel run things in the restaurant without interference and the show ends.

Luigi's D'Italia - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Luigi's D'Italia Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Luigi’s D’Italia in Anaheim, California.

Luigi's was opened by Luigi Catizone in 1981 and run by him and his family.

He was helped by his father Dominic for the financing of the restaurant.

The restaurant was successful for many years after they opened.

In 1999, Dominic retired to Italy and Luigi’s brother Tony came to join his brother and help run the restaurant.

Soon the differing views of Tony and Luigi became a problem for the restaurant.

Tony’s laidback attitude cause Luigi and Grace, his wife to yell at him in front of staff and customers.

All three clash often and it is fracturing the family as well as effecting the business.

They are losing money and only able to remain open for one more month as they are $1.5million in debt.

Gordon checks out their website and sees that they are advertising that they have a 22 year old head chef.

Gordon arrives excited to see the chef but meets Luigi who is 51 years old.

He queries that bit is told that the post was from 1981 and the most recent review is from 1991.

Luigi says the food is a lot better and he runs it with his family.

Gordon asks to be introduced to the family.

He meets his wife Grace, his Daughter Dominica, his brother Tony and Linda, Tony’s wife.

They all sit down with Gordon and he asks them what’s wrong with the restaurant.

Tony reveals he oversees the restaurant from Monday to Wednesday while Luigi runs it from Thursday to Sunday because they don’t get along.

Luigi and Grace say Tony and Linda are too lazy and they don’t care about the restaurant.

There are also complaints about customers not wanting to meet Grace as she is rude to them.

This immediately gets Grace riled up and a shouting match ensues between all 4 adults.

Gordon sits down to eat lunch from the menu and finds that the menu is huge, with 126 items on it.

He orders a ravioli dish, linguini and the catch of the day which is mahi mahi.

As he waits for his food he looks around and comments that the decor is very dated.

The ravioli arrives first, it is stuffed with five cheese and is premade.

Gordon asks what the cheeses are so the server has to go find out what type of cheese is in it from the box.

Gordon finds the taste to be horrible and doesn’t even taste like cheese.

Next is the mahi mahi which is bland, greasy and mush.

He has the server taste it and he agrees it could be better.

In the kitchen, Luigi is not accepting any of the feedback and Gordon can hear him arguing with Tony in the kitchen.

Luigi comes to meet Gordon at his table about the feedback and leaves when Gordon asks to finish his meal first.

Last to arrive is the linguini which is weird, grainy and tastes disgusting.

Gordon goes to the kitchen to meet Luigi and Tony and he asks why the food was horrible but Luigi is defensive.

Gordon says Luigi has lost his spark and he needs to find it.

Gordon comes back for the evening service and notices that the food is coming out fast but no one is tasting the food.

He is told this always happens, no one ever tastes the food.

The food is sent back just as fast as being received and Luigi can’t take the feedback.

He is shouting at his staff and the diners can hear the noise from the kitchen.

Gordon comes to meet him in the kitchen and tries to talk to him, but Luigi doesn’t want to listen and shouts at him also.

Luigi walks out and Tony has to come to talk him back into finishing off the dinner service.

Luigi comes back in and Gordon reminds them both of the sign outside that says they have ‘the best Italian food west of Italy’.

He tells them they have a problem but they are not facing it and they need to work smarter not harder.

Gordon meets the family the next day and they tell him they have never had a staff meeting before.

Gordon organises a staff meeting and has the family sit in a back room to watch the responses.

Gordon asks the staff to be honest about the problems of the restaurant.

They say they can’t talk to the owners and if they do they get an argument from them.

They think that the owners need to listen to customers and they need to taste the food before it leaves the kitchen.

They have also noticed that they are stressed out by the work environment.

They say it is a constant battle between the two couples and it has caused customers to leave in the past.

They quickly pinpoint Grace as the biggest problem and say that she is disruptive and scares them.

She doesn’t want to hear it and says it is all lies.

She feels ganged up on and she breaks down wanting to leave the business.

Gordon tries to make her see that it is not personal, they are her team and they are there for her.

He takes the owners to sit with the staff and he addresses them all together.

They need to be honest and communicate to be able to make the business work.

To try and fix the relationships, the family is taken to the kitchen to make some spicy sausages.

Gordon and Luigi then use the sausages to make a dish together and they are all happy with the meal.

Gordon has a surprise for the family and staff, it is a video message from Dominic in Italy.

He reminds them they are family and they built the business together.

Gordon’s team work all night on the new Luigi’s.

It now has an Italian theme and the restaurant looks like an Italian get away.

They all love the changes and Luigi is reminded of his father.

The menu has been simplified and features new seasonal dishes.

The staff all love the new menu.

For relaunch night there is positivity in the air and Luigi is in the charge of the kitchen while Tony is expediting.

The food leaves the kitchen quickly and diners are enjoying the new menu.

Tony soon disappears and food gets backed up on the food window with diners waiting.

Gordon gets Tony and Luigi communicating so things pick up again and the night ends a success.

The staff celebrate the success of the night, Luigi and Tony hug and Gordon has Grace promise not to scream in the restaurant.

What Happened Next at Luigi's D'Italia?

Over the next few weeks, Luigi's receives a great review from the local OC newspaper and is regaining it's good reputation in the neighbourhood.

Luigi's is still open.

Luigi reported that business was up 40% after the show aired.

Yelp reviews are mostly positive and the few negative posts are mostly complaints on service.

In September 2017, they closed their original Anaheim restaurant after the building was sold with plans to relocate.

They opened at their new location in December 2017, posting the below on their Facebook page

We are so excited to announce we are finally open! Our hours are Tuesday - Friday 11am-10pm Saturday and Sunday 12pm-10pm We will be closed Mondays for maintenance and food prep. Mike and Nellie's - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Kitchen Nightmares Mike and Nellie's

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Mike and Nellies in Oakhurst, New Jersey.

It was opened in 1996 by father Nellie Farber and son Mike Farber.

They ran it as a team with Nellie in front of house and Mike in the back in the kitchen.

It has gone downhill after Nellie sadly passed away.

His daughters have stepped in to help Mike run the restaurant.

Mike had to take over the whole running of the restaurant almost by himself.

As a result the standards have dropped.

The restaurant is in desperate need of maintenance after being left to fall into disrepair.

There are complaints about the food as Mike has also slipped in his standards in the kitchen.

Mike also spends a lot of time drinking.

He is even drinking on the job as he is unable to cope with the stress of the restaurant.

Gordon meets Mike’s daughter Samantha.

She takes a car ride with Gordon and fills him in on the situation.

She says Mike has not being able to move forward since Nellie’s death.

He hasn’t asked or let others to help.

Gordon arrives at the restaurant and meets the second daughter, Lexi.

He immediately notes the restaurant is dated and has a bad smell.

Gordon meets Mike and learns they haven’t changed anything in the dining room in 15 years.

He then sits down to order and he notices a moisture stain on the menu.

Gordon meets server Jeanine.

She tells Gordon that the bad smell in the dining room is the mouldy carpet.

There are steak, seafood and Italian dishes on the menu.

He is confused on what type of restaurant it is.

He orders the linguine with shrimp sauce, Chicken Murphy and The Steak Nellie.

Gordon can’t help but notice the state of disrepair of the dining room.

He fiddles with a crooked lampshade which eventually falls off.

The first meal to arrive is the linguini with shrimp sauce.

It is bland, rubbery and the sauce is watery.

Next, the chicken murphy arrives, which he says looks horrible on the plate.

He calls in Louis and the daughters to give feedback on the dish.

They all agree it could use an update.

Gordon tastes it and it is overcooked, wet, soggy and tasteless.

The steak nellie is the last dish to arrive.

The meat is burnt and looks and tastes like charcoal.

Afterwards, he sits with Mike tells him the dishes were dated and inedible.

One of the biggest problems is that the menu is too large.

Gordon returns to observe the dinner service.

Mike lets him know he does most of the cooking and the others support him in pushing it out.

Mike cooks fast but the quality is poor as customers send the food back with various complaints.

There is chaos in the kitchen with Mike cooking everything himself.

The calamari sent out were overcooked to mush and the steaks were burnt.

Gordon is astounded by how much commotion goes on in the kitchen with Mike at the centre of it all.

Gordon confronts Mike about his drinking in the kitchen.

He tells him it shows he doesn’t care about his career or his restaurant.

Mike reveals he is stressed by the expectations.

He has struggled and lost his passion since his father died.

The next day, Gordon meets with the daughters in their home to talk about Mike.

They shed some light on Mike’s state of mind.

He went straight back to work after the funeral and he is still hurting.

Mike joins in and Gordon lets him know he is 55, not 25 and he can’t keep going as he used to.

The girls tell him he has to let go so others can pick up responsibilities.

He insists he trusts no one to be able to do it.

He finally agrees to be somewhat open and listen more.

Gordon and Mike go into the restaurant and they inspect the freezers and storage.

There is raw and chicken meat stored together as well as old lobster bisque and calamari.

There are dirty pans, produce with no dates on and the place is in general need of a deep clean.

Gordon has the kitchen staff come in early to help deep clean the kitchen.

Next, Gordon goes through cooking steaks with Mike.

He is more open to learning and has also put away all his beer bottles.

The meals are great and are served with fresh mashed potatoes and the staff love it.

Gordon begins the renovations by ripping up the mouldy carpets.

A new sign is unveiled with a rebrand to become Mike and Nellie’s Steakhouse.

Inside, there is modern art on the walls and a new carpet.

The place has been brightened and the dining room has been opened up with a rustic modern feel.

Gordon then reveals the new menu, which is mostly steak based to fit their new theme.

On relaunch night, customers love the new decor and are eager to taste the food.

In the kitchen, Gordon helps delegate with Sous Chef Daniel.

He is running the sides while Mike handles just the grill.

It works at first with Mike calling orders and everyone working together.

An hour in, Mike confuses the kitchen and slips into his previous role of doing everything.

He is reminded to relinquish control and things get back on track.

There has been no complaints or food sent back and Mike has time to go and meet his happy customers.

At the end of dinner service, they are all pleased with the success of the relaunch.

What Happened Next at Mike and Nellie's?

In the weeks following filming business was booming and the menu was a big hit.

Yelp reviews after filming were mostly good.

The few negative reviews seem to be off services or complaints of the menu changes made.

Mike and Nellie's closed on January 21st 2012.

The below message was posted on their website,
It is with great sadness that we announce that Mike and Nellie’s will be open for it’s final night, January 21.

It’s been a great run.

Thank you to all my friends, relatives and loyal customers who have been there with me for the last 15+ years.

When the time is right, I will let you know where I will be. -Mike and (Nellie)

Mike and Nellie's was aired on October 07 2011, the episode was filmed in July 2011 and is Kitchen Nightmares season 5 episode 3.

Leone's - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Leone's Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Leone's in Montclair, New Jersey.

Leone's restaurant was opened by Rose in 1996.

Business was good and people would wait in line to come in.

Three years ago, she fell into a coma following complications from a kidney stone operation.

Michael stepped in and took over the family business.

All he does is walk around and watch football all day before going home.

The actual work of running the restaurant fell into head server Trudy’s hands.

Michael’s lack of concern affected the whole restaurant.

Everyone else started acting the same.

The staff would take naps and play soccer instead of working.

As a result the restaurant declined.

Michael had no experience in running a restaurant.

The restaurant lost a lot of money whilst he was in charge.

Rose returned and the restaurant she had owned for 14 years was in shambles.

She returned to a dirty disorganized restaurant.

It lacked management and everything she had worked for was gone.

The restaurant used to be fully booked and now they aren’t booking many tables at all.

Gordon arrives and meets Michael, who is relaxing and watching sports on the TV in the reception.

Gordon tells Michael how it is a bad first impression to come in to see him watching TV rather than working.

He notices the strange art works on the wall and he thinks they are creepy and ugly.

Gordon meets with Rose and asks her what she thinks is wrong with the restaurant.

Rose looks at Michael, then back at Gordon.

She says that everything is wrong at the restaurant.

Gordon is introduced to the staff.

Trudy tells Gordon that the major problem is that there is no one leading the restaurant.

Michael cuts in and says the decor is the problem.

Michael admits to Gordon that Trudy does most of the jobs at Leone’s.

She does everything from ordering produce to payroll and creating the menus.

Gordon asks Michael if he actually has a passion for the job.

He says yes but Trudy disagrees and doesn’t think he does.

Gordon finds out Michael only works part time in the restaurant.

When he is there he spends most the time sitting down.

When Gordon asks about the finances, he discovers they are losing $4,000 a week.

Gordon wants to sample the food.

He orders one of everything from the menu of over 100 dishes.

Looking at the spread in front of him he cannot tell some of the dishes apart.

Across the board he thinks that they look poor.

When he samples the dishes, most are bland or have too much garlic.

The fish dishes are the worst of the ones he tries.

Gordon asks Carchi and Darryl, the chefs to taste their food.

They tell him they don’t like any of the food on the table.

Gordon is not happy and he leaves the restaurant.

Gordon returns for a dinner service to find out the issues with the restaurant.

The news of his arrival in town has led to Leone’s being fully booked for the first time in years.

The diners do not like the food and dishes are sent back to the kitchen.

Gordon notices the Chefs are not only properly trained but the kitchen is also filthy.

He decides to look in the walk in and freezer and it is disgusting.

He discovers rotten food, cross contamination and improperly stored meat and seafood.

The foods hasn’t been organized in a long time.

Gordon sees food that has been in the freezer for months.

There are some items that have been in there so long the chefs can’t recognise what they are.

He shuts the restaurant down and orders the staff to deep clean the kitchen.

Gordon meets with the staff and they confess that they don’t believe in Michael.

Even Rose doesn’t believe in her son.

Gordon tells Michael to step up.

He needs to prove to everyone that he is ready to lead the restaurant.

The next day, Gordon takes the staff to an Art Gallery.

On the wall are images of their food next to food from their competitors.

Gordon confesses the food tastes as amazing as it looks.

When looking at the images of their food in comparison, it looks unappealing.

It is hard to tell what some dishes are as they look bland.

In the kitchen, Gordon gives Michael training to improve his cooking skills.

Gordon teaches Michael new skills so he can have control of the kitchen.

He needs to recognize when there is something wrong in the kitchen.

This way Michael can become an effective leader and improve the kitchen.

The food Gordon and Michael cooked together tastes great.

John confesses that it might just be the best food that has ever come out of the kitchen.

Michael says he hasn’t seen Trudy smile after sampling their food in at least two years.

Rose couldn’t believe the improvement in the food.

Over night, Gordon revamps the restaurant, modernising the dining room.

He has installed a new POS system for ordering food.

The staff enters and were surprised at how beautiful the place now looks.

Michael describes it as looking like a whole different world.

Rose is in tears and hugs Gordon.

The outdated New Jersey restaurant has now become a modern classic Italian bistro.

Gordon also cuts the menu by half, adding freshly cooked, modern Italian dishes.

The staff sample the new menu and all loved the taste of the new dishes.

On relaunch night Gordon has high hopes for Michael as his attitude has become more positive.

He expects him to take complete control of Leone’s from his mother.

He gets off to a good start, ensuring quality dishes leave the kitchen and the customers are happy.

However, Michael starts to lose control and sends out a table’s order twice.

Gordon gives him a pep talk.

He sorts the kitchen out and food starts going out again without a complaint.

Gordon is pleased with Michael's new attitude.

He tells Rose her son is ready to take over from her.

Gordon meets with Michael and advises him to stay the course.

Rose congratulates Michael and tells him he would do great without her.

What Happened Next at Leone's

Leone's in Montclair, NJ is still open.

Yelp reviews since filming are mostly positive with the odd off service/dish.

Trip Advisor reviews are more mixed and also suggest the service has off days.

Chef's Carchi and Darryl were fired after filming.

Gordon revisits the restaurant a year later in a Kitchen Nightmares revisited episode.

Michael is still there but staff reveal that he is there a few hours.

He spends the rest of the time in a local bar.

Gordon is happy with the food but not happy with Michael.

He promises he will be a better leader and commit time to the restaurant.

Rosemary Leone passed away on 5th April 2014.

Planning a visit to the restaurant? Check out their website for opening hours and further info.

Leone's was aired on September 30 2011, the episode was filmed in July 2011 and is Kitchen Nightmares season 5 episode 2.

Blackberry's - Kitchen Nightmares Update - Open or Closed?

Blackberry's Kitchen Nightmares

In this Kitchen Nightmares episode, Gordon Ramsay visits Blackberry’s in Plainfield New Jersey.

Blackberry’s Catering and Family Restaurant is soul food restaurant owned by Shelly Winters.

She used to run a successful catering business.

Her mother Mary invested her retirement funds into setting up the restaurant.

Shelly believes that the decor is great, the food is great and the location is great.

The customers and staff think otherwise, they feel that she is denial and is a control freak.

There is a breakdown of communication in the kitchen.

The staff have no system in place and she is $200,000 in debt.

Gordon arrives and immediately thinks there is a disco happening at the restaurant.

This is due to the disco ball and the records hanging from the ceiling.

He meets James who is the general manager and Mary who is the baker.

He soon finds out Shelly and James are engaged after she asks him if she can give Gordon a kiss.

Gordon sits down at a table.

He orders collard greens, pork chops with mac and cheese, chitlins and red velvet cake.

Gordon notices a record stuck on the wall beside him is hiding a big hole in the wall.

The staff claim to have no knowledge of the cover up.

First is the porkchop and mac and cheese.

He finds the meat dry and the mac and cheese is over cooked and mushy.

He can tell it has been heated in the microwave.

Next, is the Collard greens that are bland, soggy and limp.

The chitlins smell and he asks for a prayer before tasting them.

They are awful, and he goes to the bathroom to throw up.

The only part of the meal he loves is the red velvet cake that was made by Mary.

Gordon meets the kitchen staff to let them know everything that was wrong with the lunch service.

Gordon comes back for the dinner service.

He sees a mouse in the entrance of the restaurant by the front door.

The staff don't believe him as they had an exterminator come in the week prior.

James claims Gordon brought the mouse in with him.

Gordon sets out to prove otherwise and calls the staff together.

Shelly immediately backs up James claims that Gordon planted the mouse.

This angers Gordon and he wants to leave.

Shelly agrees and wants it all shut down.

Mary steps in and asks Shelly to back off and pleads with Gordon to stay.

Her wish for him to stay combined with an apology from James convinces Gordon to stay.

Gordon watches dinner service and notes there’s a pizza oven.

Food is being cooked in woks rather than pans.

Shelly is disruptive and not communicating properly.

This is confusing her staff and causing bickering between them.

Customers have been waiting for an hour and Gordon is astounded at the chaos and poor service.

The next day, he calls a staff meeting.

He hears the staff out on what they think is wrong with the restaurant.

They all complain of how Shelly is overbearing and controlling.

She leaves little room for staff to do what they are trained to do.

Shelly gets offensive and tries to keep Dwayne from talking and soon asks him to leave.

Gordon stops it before it escalates and tries to encourage open and honest dialogue.

Mary tells her daughter that she needs to be open to change for things to get better and she agrees.

Gordon shows them the first change he has made.

He has purchased them a fryer and a six-ring burner stove all from Southbend.

Shelly misses the wok and Mary is emotional at this change.

Mateen, the sous chef is put in charge of the kitchen for the night to create a system and a team.

Gordon reveals the newly renovated restaurant.

It looks less like a cafeteria and more like a restaurant now.

The records are not completely gone.

They have been made into beautiful, framed art displays that are hung on the walls.

The menu has been revamped with new dishes including updated soul food classics.

There are new barbecued pulled pork sliders and fried chicken and waffles.

On relaunch night, the new system is tested and it starts well with customers loving the food.

Mateen takes charge of the kitchen.

Shelly receives a personal call and ignores her duties, almost putting the kitchen behind.

Shelly falls back to her old ways.

She tries to interfere with other cooking stations but when called out on it she walks out.
