Hotel Hell Open or Closed

Hotel Hell is a hotel and restaurant makeover reality tv show that features Gordon visiting hotels over the USA.

Gordon identifies the issues at the hotel and fixes them before relaunching the hotel and restaurant.

Hotel Hell aired from August 2012 on Fox and season 4 has yet to be announced.

Hotel Hell Season 1


5 hotels

Aired: August to September 2012



Juniper Hill Inn is closed.

The closure was announced online.

The hotel went into foreclosure with debts of $1.1million in April 2014.

It was sold to new owners in 2015 for $400,000.

They invested $500,000 in renovating the hotel as it was left in a state of disrepair.

The hotel was rebranded and reopened as the Windsor Mansion Inn.

Reviews are much improved under the new ownership.

Cambridge Hotel is closed.

The hotel was put in foreclosure by the bank in April 2012.

In June 2012, Cambridge Hotel closed.

The building was sold at auction for $375,000.

The hotel was converted into an assisted living home.

Gordon paid for Scooters culinary school as promised.

Keating Hotel is open.

A suite has been named after Gordon Ramsay in the hotel.

Reviews from customers have praise for the location and service.

There were complaints about the rooms, noise and extra charges.

The hotel was sold in 2022 and now runs as an AirBnB.

River Rock Inn is closed.

The hotel closed in December 2014.

The hotel was sold to the previous owners.

They reopened the hotel as the Laurel Country Inn but closed in 2024.

It is currently operating as La Posada Milford & Felix's Cantina.

The focus appears to be more on the food with available hotel rooms.

Roosevelt Inn is open.

They named a suite after Gordon.

Reviews are excellent with praise for the owners, service, rooms and food.

The owners tried to sell the hotel in 2020 for $3million.

The sale fell through and they have been trying to resell since.

They had interested buyers who wanted the land and wanted to demolish the hotel.

However, the city blocked the sale with a temporary moratorium, banning the demolition of downtown buildings.



Hotel Hell Season 2


8 hotels

Aired: July to September 2014



Meson De Mesilla is open.

The hotel is operating under new ownership.

It was renamed after Cali sold the hotel in August 2014 for $2.85 million.

The hotel is now called Hacienda De Mesilla.

Reviews are excellent for both the hotel and the restaurant.

Cali had initially bought in a 50/50 partner but decided to sell the business.

Monticello Hotel is closed.

Monticello Hotel closed in 2016 due to owner Philips debts.

The hotel underwent a million dollar renovation in 2017.

It changed hands more than four times between 2016 and 2019.

The hotel was converted into studio apartments in 2019.

Philip was sentenced to 90 days in prison in July 2016 for threatening a District Court judge.

The hotel was sold to new owners and renamed to The Lindsay Lodge in 2022.

Joana decided to sell the hotel due to wanting to travel.

Reviews were very mixed with many giving negative reviews of wedding services.

There was a mixed response to the hotel and restaurant.

Hotel Chester is open.

The Gordon Burger is still popular as is the new beer garden.

Bookings have increased after their appearance on Hotel Hell.

The owners relationship has improved.

Reviews are much improved with praise the rooms, food and customer service.

Calumet Inn is closed.

Rina and Vanda sold the hotel in June 2015 and the hotel has been resold since.

In March 2020, the hotel was briefly condemned by the city.

The work was undertaken and the hotel was uncondemned in April 2020.

Calumet Inn closed in 2022.

They pursued legal action against the city.

Their case dismissed in a summary judgement in 2024.

Laylas Riverside Lodge closed in 2022.

Sandy sold the hotel to new owners.

Reviews were very positive about the dog friendly hotel.

Customers loved being able to bring their dogs to the hotel.

The food, rooms and service were highly rated by customers.

Layla sadly passed away in 2021.

Curtis House Inn is closed.

Curtis House Inn closed in April 2019 after being sold to new owners.

The inn was renovated and reopened as Evergreen Inn & Tavern in 2019.

It was sold once again in June 2020.

The hotel reopened as 1754 House, with excellent reviews.

Murphys Hotel is open.

Reviews are positive for both the hotel and restaurant.

The service, food and atmosphere are praised by customers.



Hotel Hell Season 3


7 hotels

Aired: May to July 2016



Anglers Lodge is open.

Reviews are mostly positive with praise for the location, food in the restaurant and service.

They now also have cabins available for rental.

Vienna Inn is closed.

They returned to their old ways after Gordon left.

The clutter returned to the hotel and most of his changes were undone.

Vienna Inn closed in November 2017 after the hotel suffered from a fire.

The fire was severe due to non working fire alarms.

It caused around $75,000 of damage.

The building was sold to a new owner for $30,000 in 2018.

Town's Inn is open.

Reviews are mostly positive.

Customers love the service and breakfast but complain about the lack of en-suite bathrooms.

Karan has moved back into the hotel.

She is now living in a room on the second floor.

A number of the remaining hotel rooms have been renovated since the show.

Lakeview Hotel is closed.

Owner Brent undid most of the changes Gordon made in both the hotel and restaurant.

He further alienated himself from the locals and the reputation remained poor.

Reviews were very mixed.

In 2019/2020, their Google reviews dramatically declined.

There were many negative reviews that mentioned Brents poor behaviour towards customers.

Lakeview Hotel closed in 2021, after being sold to new owners.

Brick Hotel is open.

They continued to make renovations to the rooms and restaurant.

CJ became more present at the hotel.

Reviews after the episode are mixed.

Some call the dated hotel charming and others complain of cleanliness issues.

The restaurant was sold to new owners in 2018.

It opened as Rocco's at the Brick after a renovation.

Brian made a large number of renovations to the hotel and bar.

He installed new kitchenettes, introduced a new menu, new patio furniture and the garden was landscaped.

Reviews were mixed with many complaints of noise from the bar disturbing paying guests.

The hotel was listed for sale twice on Loopnet before eventually selling.

Lakeview Hotel closed in 2019 and reopened as Sunrise Sands Beach Resort.

Jimmy took over as manager, lost 65lb and bookings have increased.

Reviews are mostly positive with compliments for the service, food and building.

They now host over 100 weddings a year.

In 2018 they built a new building called The Stables containing 14 new suites.

  1. Amazing!!! Gordon Ramsay's "success" rate is just as bad as his "Kitchen Nightmares" success rate!!!! Why doesn't he take the hint & just concentrate on writing cookbooks???? Wonder how all his resturants are doing??? How MANY of THEM have CLOSED??????

    1. Very silly comment. The people that Gordon helps in these shows are already so far in debt, then many go back to their old ways. Look at half of them, they are raving delusional lunatics. Gordon can only do so much. And his success rate for Hotel Hell isn't the same, not even close, it is higher.

    2. I agree. He gets to these people when many of them are already on the verge of closing within months. In many cases it was too little too late. You can have the best guidance and help in the world, but at a certain point there is no turning back. You're in too deep. That's where many of these places are.

    4. He proves that the businesses can be successful, if managed correctly. It's not his or the producers' faults if the owners can't take the advice given or are too far in debt to continue running their businesses. You can see by how the owners behave and how often he has to bring in new staff that a lot of these places lack anyone competent enough to maintain the standards he puts in place.

    5. What are you talking about??? 3 out of 18 hotels have closed. That's a pretty good success rate to me! As the others have said, many were on the verge of closing anyway so only having 3 close, and being able to bring the others back around is pretty good!

    7. On Kitchen Nightmares and at Hotel Hell his success rate is increasing with ongoing seasons. If you look at overall Closingrate on Kitchen Nightmares its not impressing. (season 2 all restaurants closed) but he got to almost 0% closing rate at the restaurants.

    9. Did you even read the article? There were only four of the hotels that were closed, and 16 hotels stayed open with some already having a different branch somewhere and another planning to have branches on different states. The success rate is high. You gotta be kidding.

  2. A nearly 80% success rate is pretty awesome, really. It's only 3 of 15 hotels!
    Based on your 'standards' most school systems in the US would have been completely shut down long ago, because their graduation rate is lower than 79%.

  4. As an industry insider I have intimate knowledge of many of these properties and their stories and have spoken to several of their owners. What Gordon did with each property was to point out the obvious (sometimes only obvious to a professional).

    The issue is that knowing a problem exists is only the beginning of solving the problem -- you must then fix the issue(s). Many of the property owners were either unwilling or completely incapable of changing things and for those who did it was a hard and sometimes expensive road toward success (with many of them still struggling).

    Not everyone should own a business and the rule of survival of the fittest applies. However, if you're willing to take the advice of professionals and implement the necessary changes you have a greater chance of succeeding. Kudos to Gordon for being willing to step into the mess not of his own making and give them advice that could save their business. Season 1 was pretty brutal but only because Gordon is so passionate -- he's softened over the years and it tends to be more palatable to the owners.

    in year around 2025 or something,some of these hotel will closed their door and people will start blaming Ramsey for that,like what happen with Kitchen Nightmare.The show is fun tho.

  7. Considering these successes, I'm guessing there's something about the hotels that make them better able to weather bad times vs plain ol' restaurants. Or the skills necessary for opening and running a hotel just make the people Ramsey deals with somewhat better at adopting to change, heeding his advice, and maintaing the discipline not to go back to the old destructive ways.

    1. I would imagine the fact that the hotel owners own the physical building also helps. Restaurateurs are renting the space, which means a string of bad luck could wind up with them evicted more easily.

  9. if these ignorant owners would just realize that they need to do what he says, they would still be in business. It's simple. Keep it simple, fresh local and clean. if I was the wife of that snotty arrogant Sherlock Holmes want to be, I would have had the divorce done before the ink on the papers for the hotel were dry.
    Considering the financial ruin that most of these are in before Gordon ever gets there, I think his success rate is phenomenal! It's much better than the restaurant rate of success but then again control is most of the problem. The owner wants control over everything that happens and they know nothing and don't sit back and let their staff do what they need to do to make the restaurant or hotel as success. That's where they get into problems and that's why they fold.

  11. Those laughing about the closure rates also need to consider the time gap. At this point Season 1 of KN is 10 years old. In many cases a restaurant that would have closed in 2 months made it another 5 to 8 years before it closed due to other reasons... In some cases the owner literally died. What was Gordon supposed to do about that ten years later? What is he supposed to do when his changes get undone the day after he leaves?
